Johnny's Jury

Redlych Race Of Unrivalled Horsepower Maiden Hurdle (12.23 Wincanton, Saturday)

What's the story?

The Seven Barrows team has been in red-hot form of late and Nicky Henderson saddles a nicely bred newcomer at Wincanton on Saturday.

Johnny's Jury is a son of Jukebox Jury who sold to Paul Holden for €150,000 at the 2023 Goffs Arkle Sale, having previously made €70,000 to Richard Rohan at the 2020 Tattersalls Ireland November Sale as a foal.

How's he bred?

The five-year-old is the eighth foal out of Saint Des Saints mare Sainte Baronne, a half-sister to Grade 3 Prix Morgex winner Bingo Bell. The 21-year-old has excelled in her second career, having produced 2021 Supreme Novices' Hurdle hero Appreciate It, by the late Jeremy, and the Grade 2-placed Danny Kirwan, by Scorpion, from three winners.

Appreciate It was also second in the Champion Bumper at the 2020 Cheltenham Festival and had also landed two Grade 1 contests prior to his 24-length Supreme romp in the Future Champions Novice Hurdle and Chanelle Pharma Novice Hurdle.

The high-class son of Jeremy has also won a Grade 2 bumper and struck twice over fences. His placings over fences include a half-length second to Fastorslow in the 2023 John Durkan Memorial Chase and second in the Champion Novice Chase at the Punchestown festival a few months earlier.

Who does he face?

Among Johnny's Jury's 12 rivals in the extended 2m5f contest is rules debutante Just A Rose, a two and a quarter length winner of a Chaddesley Corbett point-to-point in December 2023 for Tom Ellis.

The Saint Des Saint mare cost Tom Malone and Paul Nicholls £175,000 at the Tattersalls Cheltenham December Sale and is out of the Grade 3-placed Daring Rose, an Al Namix half-sister to Grade 1 Longchamp bumper scorer Guerrier Rose.

Others to note include Youmzain mare King's Consort, a daughter of Listed bumper winner Shesafoxylady, and Roe And Co, a winner of his point at Damma House before his sale to Jamie Snowden. The Malinas gelding hails from the family of the smart Padre Mio.
