Tea Boy

Horslyx - For Horse's Health & Welfare Open Maiden National Hunt Flat Race (5.25 Hexham, Tuesday)

What's the story?

A particularly well-bred son of Diamond Boy debuts at Hexham on Tuesday in the form of Tea Boy, a gelding with an excellent name to boot. He is a half-brother to a Champion Chase and Arkle winner in Put The Kettle On, thus continuing the tea-related theme in the family.

Bred by Butlersgrove Stud and owned and trained by the Yafforth-based Peter Atkinson, it will be interesting to see how he fares.

How's he bred?

The five-year-old is the 12th foal out of the Quest For Fame mare Name For Fame, a Juddmonte bred who went on to win over hurdles and place in Grade 3 company. A half-sister to French Flat Listed winner Birthplace and Grade 1 Finale Junior Hurdle runner-up Borazon, she has produced three winners to date.

Chief among them is Put The Kettle On, a Stowaway mare who enjoyed two Cheltenham Festival triumphs for Henry de Bromhead and the One For Luck Racing syndicate. After her racing exploits she sold to Highflyer Bloodstock on behalf of Simon Davies of Chapel Stud for £380,000 at the 2022 Goffs UK Aintree Sale. She has a two-year-old filly by Planteur and yearling filly by Golden Horn. She is currently in foal to Blue Bresil.

Name For Fame has also produced Carningli, a dual hurdle and bumper winner who was second in a Listed Cheltenham bumper.

Who does he face?

Among his seven rivals is the Lucinda Russell-trained Imperfectlyperfect, a Walk In The Park gelding who was third on his rules debut at Kelso last month. Having placed a half-length second on his second point-to-point start at Tinahely in November, he sold to Russell and Paul McIvor for £70,000 at the Goffs UK Coral Gold Cup Sale later that month.

Another to note is Nick Alexander's Wings Of Eagles gelding Eagle's Cairn, a half-brother to the Listed-placed Miss Fairfax. The Beeches Stud-bred five-year-old improved on his debut effort to place third at Carlisle in February.
