Swing Davis
Coolmore N.H. Sires Hurricane Lane Irish EBF Mares INH Flat Race (3.40 Navan, Sunday)
What's the story?
Goffs Punchestown sale-topper Swing Davis makes her debut in a competitive looking Listed bumper at Navan on Sunday.
The No Risk At All filly made headlines in May when selling to Mag's O'Toole for a punchy €320,000 from Ballyboy Stables.
She was an easy winner of her second point-to-point when striking at Loughanmore in April, having fallen four out when going well on her debut at Tattersalls Farm a few weeks before.
Ballyboy's Denis Murphy said after her sale: "She's a well-made filly with size and scope, and she vetted very well.
"She moves well and, before she ran, all of her homework was very good. She was still travelling very strongly when she fell at Tattersalls Farm. It was a good filly that won it in the end [Flamingo Grove]; this one fell a long way from home but she was going easily at the time."
How's she bred?
The four-year-old is the fifth foal out of Tamtam Davis, an Astarabad half-sister to Grade 2 Warfield Mares' Hurdle winner Violin Davis.
Swing Davis's half-siblings number Lindy Hop Davis and Salsa Davis, the latter a winner over hurdles in France and the former a point-to-point winner.
Tamtam Davis is in turn out of Rose Laurel mare Trumpet Davis, a sister to the prolific Champion Chase and Arkle winner Klairon Davis.
Who does she face?
Among her seven rivals is Cameletta Vega, a Camelot daughter of the great Quevega and a close relation to multiple Grade 1 winner Facile Vega and black-type bumper winner Aurora Vega. The Willie Mullins-trained runner struck on her racecourse bow at Galway in August but was well beaten in a Listed bumper at Gowran Park last month.
Another exceedingly well-bred runner is Churchfield Sunset, a winner on her debut at Cork in May and most recently second at Roscommon in June. The Wings Of Eagles filly is out of the Old Vic mare Old Moon, making her a half-sister to last season's brilliant Grade 1 Gallagher Novices' Hurdle winner Ballyburn, as well as the Grade 2-placed Noble Endeavor and fellow black-type performer Minella Daddy.
Last-time-out winners Mummy Derry and Meitheal also have smart pages, with the former being a Yeats half-sister to last season's dual Grade 1-winning novice chaser Spillane's Tower. The latter is an Imperial Monarch half-sister to Grade 3 winner Just Janice and the Listed-placed Sheer Liss.
