The lots to keep an eye on at the Tattersalls July Sale this week
The three-day auction gets under way on Wednesday at Park Paddocks in Newmarket
The Tattersalls July Sale gets under way at Park Paddocks on Wednesday and buyers will be spoilt for choice, with broodmares, fillies out of training and horses in training among hundreds of lots on offer. We take a look at some of the choicest set to come under the hammer.
Frankieta (Lot 73)
Frankel - Sleek (Oasis Dream)
Consigned by Carisbrooke Stud
Frankieta, an unraced Frankel half-sister to French Listed winner and Rockfel Stakes runner-up Stylistique - also second in two further Group 2 contests at Meydan - would appeal as a welcome addition to any broodmare band.
The three-year-old hails from a fine black-type family, being out of an unraced full-sister to Bye Bye Birdie, winner of the Balanchine Stakes for Aidan O'Brien and the Coolmore partners and who is also the dam of Irish St Leger Trial scorer Delphi and Blandford Stakes third Credenza.
Further back in the page, Frankieta can count Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf scorer Dank, Prix Marcel Boussac heroine Sulk and Hong Kong Group 1 winner Eagle Mountain among her relations.
Auriga (155)
Teofilo - Look Busy (Danetime)
Consigned by WH Bloodstock
The daughter of Teofilo received a timely boost ahead of her date in the Park Paddocks ring when her Night Of Thunder half-sister, Keep Busy, added a second Listed contest to her name when winning the Land O'Burns Fillies' Stakes at Ayr last month.
Consigned by WH Bloodstock, the filly is out of Temple Stakes winner Look Busy, a Danetime half-sister to Prix Morny scorer and Springfield House Stud resident Unfortunately.
Look Busy has also produced the Listed-placed Kyllachy mare Looks A Million, proving herself equally high-class in her second vocation.
Roodica (162)
Due Diligence - Roodle (Xaar)
Consigned by Baroda Stud
From the family of the mighty Roodeye, the dam of Shadwell's Sussex Stakes hero and exciting new sire Mohaather, Roodica has plenty going for her in terms of her pedigree.
The four-year-old can also count Queen Anne winner Accidental Agent as a half-brother, while she is also related to the multiple American Grade 2 victress Prize Exhibit and a number of stakes-placed performers, including Prix Morny runner-up Gallagher.
Hooray (175)
Invincible Spirit - Hypnotize (Machiavellian)
Consigned by Cheveley Park Stud
The Cheveley Park consignment regularly yields stars - just think of Golden Horde's dam Entreat selling to BBA Ireland for 14,000gns at this sale five years ago - and this champion daughter of Invincible Spirit stands out on the page.
The winner of the Cheveley Park and Lowther Stakes for Sir Mark Prescott, the 13-year-old sells in foal to the Newmarket stud's first-season sire Ulysses having produced three minor winners, including dual winner Restive Spirit.
Out of a stakes winner in Hypnotize, Hooray's page received another black-type update when Nymphadora, a daughter of No Nay Never and out of her Pivotal half-sister Bewitchment, landed the Marygate Stakes at York in May.
Desert Star (265)
Dubawi - Desert Blossom (Shamardal)
Consigned by Godolphin
One of a number of typically well-bred lots offered by Godolphin, Desert Star heads to the sale as a winner in France on her most recent start for Alex Pantall.
Out of the Group 2-placed Shamardal mare Desert Blossom - herself a half-sister to two stakes performers - the daughter of Dubawi holds significant paddock value being a full-sister to Duneflower, a Listed winner and runner-up in the Atalanta Stakes and Prix Bertrand de Tarragon from only nine starts.
Desert Star's third dam is Sweet Solera Stakes scorer Gharam, a daughter of Green Dancer who finished third in the French 1,000 Guineas, while she can also count Spinster Stakes runner-up and South African Graded winner Third Runway among her relations.
Garswood (340)
Dutch Art - Penchant (Kyllachy)
Consigned by Houghton Bloodstock
A rare opportunity for buyers to snap up a proven stallion, Garswood will take to the Tattersalls ring as the final lot on the opening day of the July Sale.
Winner of the Prix Maurice de Gheest and Lennox Stakes, as well as having a number of Group-race placings to his name, the 11-year-old son of Dutch Art has sired two Group winners in the form of Prix des Reservoirs scorer Cala Tarida and Prix du Bois winner Little Kim.
Having stood at Cheveley Park Stud for five seasons, Garswood then switched to Haras de la Huderie's roster for two years. He hails from a fine Cheveley Park family too, with his dam a three-parts sister to Nell Gwyn winner Irresistible, the dam of Falmouth Stakes heroine Veracious and Summer Mile winner Mutakayyef.
Garswood was also provided with a Royal Ascot winner last month, when the talented Significantly took out the Palace of Holyroodhouse Stakes.
Beat Le Bon (426)
Wootton Bassett - Frida La Blonde (Elusive City)
Consigned by East Everleigh Stables
A full-brother to Prix de l'Abbaye winner and Haras de Bouquetot's new sire Wooded, Beat Le Bon has a CV with plenty of recent high-class form.
The five-year-old Wootton Bassett gelding has several high-class handicap wins to his name as well as placings in the Sovereign Stakes, Two Year Old Trophy and King Richard III Stakes for Richard Hannon and Sullivan Bloodstock.
With four wins and seven placings from 23 starts, Beat Le Bon could have plenty more to offer and may well attract international buyers looking for a classy and tough individual.
King Carney (444)
Australia - Petit Trianon (Dansili)
Consigned by Bedford House Stables
A high-class juvenile for Charlie Fellowes, the son of Australia had connections dreaming after cosily winning the Listed Silver Tankard Stakes on his final two-year-old start.
It has not necessarily been straightforward for the four-year-old since, although he has run well in Class 2 handicaps last year and this term.
A potentially attractive proposition for a smaller yard or international buyer, King Carney can also boast a high-class page, with Prix de la Foret winner Etoile Montante, New York Stakes victor Starformer and this year's Eight Belles Stakes victress Obligatory among his family.
Sempre (533)
Kingman - All Time (Dansili)
Consigned by Juddmonte Farms
The Juddmonte Farms draft is always highly anticipated and among the leading operation's offering is this daughter of Kingman and All Time, a winning full-sister to Group 1 heroine Passage Of Time as well as the high-class Father Time and Continuum.
It is perhaps unnecessary to point out the depth of this filly's page, but she can also count Falmouth Stakes heroine Timepiece, York Stakes victor and National Stud first-season sire Time Test, plus multiple top-level winner Twice Over, among her family.
The unraced three-year-old therefore looks a potentially valuable asset to any breeding operation.
Enthused (587)
Zoffany - Question Times (Shamardal)
Consigned by Brickfield Equine
A winning half-brother to Irish Derby hero Latrobe and Oaks runner-up Pink Dogwood, Enthused will not have gone under the radar for the three-day auction.
The four-year-old has raced only three times, including when picking up a Beverley novice in April, and there is no reason to suspect he cannot improve again. Having raced once in Hong Kong for John Size, he made his first run in Britain a winning one when repelling Yankee Stadium by half a length.
His second dam, the winning Forever Times, has produced Sceptre Stakes heroine Sunday Times, herself the dam of Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf winner Newspaperofrecord and Listed scorer Classical Times.
Pierre Lapin (767)
Cappella Sansevero - Beatrix Potter (Cadeaux Genereux)
Consigned by Carlburg Stables
Unbeaten in two starts as a juvenile, including when defeating Superlative Stakes scorer Mystery Power in the Mill Reef Stakes, this gelding is a fascinating entry on the final day of the July Sale.
Having raced in the Commonwealth Cup, the Lennox Stakes and Hungerford Stakes without success, the son of Tower Stakes winner Cappella Sansevero was subsequently gelded.
Fourth on his sole start this term, the four-year-old is notably a half-brother to July Cup and Haydock Sprint Cup winner Harry Angel, as well as the winning Golden Journey.
His second dam, the Listed-placed Grand Lodge mare Great Joy, is herself responsible for the dual Champions Mile winner Xtension and Triggers Broom, the dam of last season's Middle Park scorer Supremacy.
Laafy (796)
Noble Mission - Miner's Secret (Mineshaft)
Consigned by Freemason Lodge Stables
A multiple winning son of Noble Mission, the Sir Michael Stoute-trained gelding has some useful form, including when Listed-placed at Newmarket last September and when a fine second in the Old Newton Cup earlier that season.
The five-year-old is a half-sister to Grade 2 Amsterdam Stakes winner Coal Front and the Listed-winning Graded-placed Conquest Titan.
Having also struck in a competitive Class 2 handicap at Ascot last year, he is another who could pique interest from overseas buyers.
