Little Kim's Deauville raid provides Garswood with first stakes winner
Almost four years ago Garswood recorded his biggest success in the Prix Maurice de Gheest and on Tuesday, Deauville provided him with another notable result when Little Kim landed the Group 3 Prix du Bois to become his first stakes winner as a sire.
The Karl Burke-trained filly came into the race having finished eighth behind Signora Cabello in the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot and once she had her head in front, won the contest by a length.
Gary Hodson and Peter Moule bred Little Kim out of the Listed-winning Lucky Story mare Primo Lady which makes her a half-sister to the US Listed winner Out Of The Flames. Out Of The Flames herself contested last year's edition of the Queen Mary Stakes - beaten three lengths by the eventual winner Heartache.
First-season sires with stakes winners
Bungle Inthejungle - Sire of Listed winner Sopran Artemide
Garswood - Sire of Prix du Bois winner Little Kim
Kingman - Sire of Coventry Stakes winner Calyx
No Nay Never - Sire of Listed winner Servalan
There is still plenty to come from Primo Lady in the shape of a yearling colt by Due Diligence and a colt foal at foot by Newsells Park Stud resident Equiano.
It was at Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale where Burke went to 45,000gns to secure the daughter of Garswood from the Barton Stud draft.
Garswood, a son of another Cheveley stallion in Dutch Art, was trained by Richard Fahey to win four races from 15 starts during his career.
Retired to the Newmarket operation to stand his first season at stud in 2015 at an initial fee of £7,000, he is currently standing 2018 at a price of £4,000. Since his first crop hit the track this year, he has supplied four winners.
