Lawman filly Pretty Gorgeous propelled herself to the top of the 1,000 Guineas betting market after a convincing win in the Group 2 A.R.M. Holding Debutante Stakes at the Curragh on Saturday.

The smart prospect was ridden by Shane Crosse for trainer Joseph O'Brien, who sourced the filly for 525,000gns from Glenvale Stud at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Sale.

That sale was the second part of an impressive pinhook, as Mags O'Toole sourced the filly for €55,000 as a foal from her breeder Haras du Cadran at the 2018 Arqana December Sale.

The same day O'Toole acquired Pretty Gorgeous's dam Lady Gorgeous from the same vendor for €40,000.

Bred by Newsells Park Stud, Lady Gorgeous is a Listed-placed daughter of Compton Place out of the Listed Dahlia Stakes scorer Cayman Sunset, who is also the granddam of dual Group 1-winning miler Qemah.

Lady Gorgeous has produced the dual winner Alwaab to Toronado and has a March-born yearling colt by Shalaa.

Pretty Gorgeous raced in the colours of prominent US owner John Oxley, who also campaigned the 2001 Kentucky Derby hero and sire Monarchos.

Invincible Spirit stallion Lawman, who stood the past two seasons at Haras de Grandcamp having relocated from Ballylinch Stud, is no stranger to Classic success as he is also the sire of the late Irish 1,000 Guineas heroine Just The Judge and St Leger scorer Harbour Law.

Perennial champion sire Galileo was denied a sixth winner of the Debutante Stakes in ten years as daughter Shale - out of the 1,000 Guineas heroine Homecoming Queen - could only finish second.

Galileo's previous winners of the race are Maybe (2011), Tapestry (2013), Ballydoyle (2015), Rhododendron (2016) and Magical (2017).
