Laurens' first foal and Bluestocking's half-sister among wide-ranging Tattersalls February Sale entries
First Ambition, the first foal out of the brilliant Laurens and a winner on debut at Newcastle earlier this month, is among 331 lots to have been catalogued for the two-day Tattersalls February Sale.
The auction, which will take place on January 30 and 31, will feature a stallion parade as well as the inaugural Retraining of Racehorses (RoR) Showcase which will commence at 11am on the opening day. Among the nine British-based stallions on show will be Bradsell, Isaac Shelby and Stradivarius, while nine retrained racehorses will be showing how they have adapted into second careers.
The catalogue is made up of 124 fillies and mares in/out of training, 23 broodmares, 157 colts and geldings in/out of training, 18 yearlings and nine two-year-olds.
First Ambition, a four-year-old gelding by Invincible Spirit who changed hands for 42,000gns at the Tattersalls Guineas Sale last year, is being offered by Consign Ltd and is among the most exciting of the horses in training due to go under the hammer along with Frankel colt and dual winner Baraq and the Marco Botti pair Molveno and Raagi
The broodmares catalogued include two close relations to last year’s brilliant Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner Bluestocking led by her Kingman half-sister Desirous, the dam of Sand Gazell and Divisio, as well as a Dansili sister to Bluestocking's dam Emulous. They will both be offered by Barton Sales.
Other eyecatchers among the mares include Propel, a Dubawi half-sister to three Group 1 performers from the family L’Ancresse who will be offered by Hazelwood Bloodstock in foal to Pinatubo, and Publicist, a Dark Angel half-sister to Group 1 Prix de l’Abbaye winner Total Gallery who will be offered by Houghton Bloodstock in foal to Modern Games.
Fillies from the Godolphin consignment include the Listed-placed Valdivira, a daughter of Blue Point from the family of Territories well as close relatives to the likes of Castle Lady, Naval Crown, Wuheida and Lady Marian.
The Castlebridge Consignment will offer the largest draft in the catalogue with a team of 45 lots including Fireblade, the Frankel brother of Cracksman who has form for John and Thady Gosden. There are progeny by the likes of Wootton Bassett, Saxon Warrior and Showcasing as well as some younger sires among the two-year-olds and yearlings on offer.
Tattersalls chairman Edmond Mahony said: "2024 was a landmark year for the Tattersalls February Sale with Irish Derby winner Los Angeles, French 2,000 Guineas winner Metropolitan and Dubai Turf winner Facteur Cheval, all out of mares purchased at the sale for a total of just 66,800gns.
"As well as Classic and Group 1 producers, Group and Listed winners such as multiple American Graded stakes winner Missed The Cut and last weekend’s King Faisal Cup winner Uncle in Saudi Arabia continue to fly the flag for the February Sale globally as a consistent source of high class horses in training.
"There is plenty of quality breeding stock and horses in training in this year’s catalogue including consignments from Godolphin and Juddmonte and from many of Britain and Ireland’s leading trainers and stud farms. Alongside the ever popular stallion parade, this year’s February Sale will also feature the inaugural Retraining of Racehorses Showcase and looks certain to appeal to the usual diverse mix of domestic and international buyers who have made the Tattersalls February Sale Europe’s leading midwinter sale.”
