Land Force proving a 'natural' as his first four mares are scanned in foal
Highclere Stud's new recruit Land Force has had his first four mares scanned in foal, Jake Warren has confirmed.
The quartet, who form part of a book currently comprising 130 mares, are: Shanndoura, a daughter of Oasis Dream from a deep Aga Khan family that includes elite winners Shamdala, Shergar and Shamdinan; Kaminari, a well-related Sea The Stars mare; Three Sugars, dam of the Listed-winning Miss Sugars; and Bonhomie, a Shamardal mare whose first foal, a colt by Cable Bay, sold to Shadwell for £175,000.
"Land Force is a natural in the covering shed and these lovely mares give a fantastic indication of the smart pedigrees being sent to him in his first year," said Warren.
"Breeders have clearly been very taken by him with his book now reaching 130 mares, we've been bowled over by this extremely exciting start."
Bred by Evie Stockwell, Land Force is out of the Group 3-winning Rock Of Gibraltar mare Theann, who has also produced dual US Grade 1 winner Photo Call.
In turn, Theann is out of the influential and hugely talented sprinter Cassandra Go, which makes her a half-sister to Classic heroine Halfway To Heaven, who is also the dam of top-flight winners Magical and Rhododendron.
Cassandra Go is also a half-sister to the late popular sprint sire Verglas.
Land Force, a son of No Nay Never who landed the Group 2 Richmond Stakes at two, is standing his debut season at a fee of £6,500.
