Lady With The Lamp an appropriate first stakes winner for freshman sire King Of Change
Arizona was another first-season sire to strike Listed success on the card
King Of Change's first winner Lady With The Lamp appropriately became his first black-type scorer when narrowly denying Juddmonte's Revoke in the Legacy Stakes at Dundalk.
The filly was bred by Billy and Paul McEnery out of the winning Elusive Quality mare Caring Touch and had sold to joint owner Kevin Blake for €14,000 at Goffs Orby Book 2. Her dam in turn, a Godolphin-bred from the family of Group 1 Premio Presidente Della Repubblica winner Flagbird, had sold to Paul McEnery for 12,000gns at the Tattersalls December Mare Sale in 2018.
Trained by Joseph O'Brien for a partnership that includes Blake and Nick Luck, the filly struck at Bath on her second start in June. The half-sister to the winning Payment In Kind is one of five individual winners for her sire so far.
The son of Farhh had run second in two starts at two for Richard Hannon and Ali Abdulla Saeed before shelving his maiden tag at Nottingham the following spring. He was second to Magna Grecia in the 2,000 Guineas before landing the Listed Fortune Stakes at Sandown and then the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot on Champions Day.
That Group 1 success was his final track appearance and he initially took up stud duties at Derrinstown Stud in 2021 before switching to Starfield Stud in 2023. He stood this year for €5,000.
Now eight, King Of Change is out of Echo Of Light mare Salacia, making him a half-brother to Group 2 Celebration Mile winner and Group 1-placed Century Dream, by Cape Cross.
Coolmore's Coventry Stakes winner and Dewhurst second Arizona also got off the stakes mark, this time with Right And True. The hardy colt had opened his account at the fifth time of asking for Ballydoyle and Coolmore at Listowel before his Listed Star Appeal Stakes score.
Out of the Quality Road mare Princess Theodora, he had sold to Paula Flannery for €35,000 at the Goffs November Foal Sale, before making €68,000 to Gerry Aherne at the Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale.
He is one of seven individual winners for his sire, who stood 2024 for a fee of €5,000.
