Kingman supplies a third stakes winner with smart Sangarius

First-season sire Kingman notched a third stakes winner on Friday when son Sangarius landed the Listed Weatherbys Global Stallions App Flying Scotsman Stakes at Doncaster – a race won by the great Frankel when it was a conditions event, and by subsequent 2,000 Guineas runner-up Tip Two Win last year.

Sangarius, who represents Frankel and Kingman's owner-breeder Khalid Abdullah, is now unbeaten in two starts for trainer Sir Michael Stoute and earned quotes of around 10-1 for the 2,000 Guineas in 2019.

Kingman is assembling an impressive arsenal of talent for next year's Classics as he has also sired impressive Coventry Stakes winner Calyx, Listed scorer Look Around and the promising lightly raced sorts King Of Comedy, Poetry and Persian King.

The son of Invincible Spirit – who stood at Banstead Manor Stud at a fee of £55,000 this year – has posted 11 winners in total and his tally of three stakes winners matches fellow freshman No Nay Never.

Sangarius hails from one of Juddmonte's very best families as he is descended from the operation's late outstanding blue hen Hasili.

He is the fifth foal out of the winning Empire Maker mare Trojan Queen, making him a half-brother to Derrinstown Stud 1,000 Guineas Trial third Emergent, who is by Kingman's close relative Oasis Dream.

Trojan Queen is a half-sister to stakes winners Ideal World and Romantica out of triple Group 1 heroine Banks Hill, a daughter of Danehill who won the Coronation Stakes, Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf and Prix Jacques le Marois.

Banks Hill was one of five top-level winners out of Hasili, along with Cacique, Champs Elysees, Heat Haze and Intercontinental.

Hasili was unlucky not to have six to her name, as son Dansili finished second and third in Group/Grade 1 company on six occasions. He has made up for it as a stallion by providing 21 elite winners.

Trojan Queen has a yearling colt by Frankel but no foal, and was covered by Showcasing this year.

Hesmonds Stud might have landed a coup by managing to get into this illustrious family relatively cheaply, as they bought Sangarius's Makfi half-sister Bee Queen for just 50,000gns at the Tattersalls December Breeding-Stock Sale last year.
