Kevin Philippart de Foy scouting for talent before new training chapter begins
De Foy spent five years with Group 1-winning trainer James Fanshawe
One new face who will be scouring the Goffs Orby sales ground with purpose this week is Kevin Philippart de Foy, who will become the latest addition to the Newmarket training ranks when he takes over at Ed Vaughan's yard on Old Station Road.
De Foy, who rode work on dual Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe heroine Treve as a two-year-old, is taking out his licence during a turbulent time for the sport, which could face racing behind closed doors for a further six months as a result of Covid-19, in addition to ongoing worries over prize-money.
Having been assistant trainer to James Fanshawe, and having also worked for John Oxx and Christophe Clement, De Foy has plenty of experience as he prepares to begin training from November 1.
He said: "I spent five years with Criquette Head in Chantilly followed by a spell of a couple of months with John Oxx in Ireland. Before I went to James Fanshawe I was based with Christophe Clement in America."
On taking over Vaughan's Machell Place Stables, De Foy added: "It's an historical yard with 37 boxes, it's right at the foot of Warren Hill, so it's a great facility.
"It's owned by Colin Murfitt, who has been a great supporter of Ed, and he's been very helpful to me."
