'It's what dreams are made of' - Magna Grecia to relocate to March Hare Stud from Coolmore
Magna Grecia, the 2,000 Guineas and Futurity Trophy winner by Invincible Spirit will swap Tipperary for Suffolk, and will stand at March Hare Stud in 2025.
Announcing the news Rosie Gedge-Gibson of March Hare Stud, said: "I’m extremely excited to be standing him under the March Hare Stud banner and feel he's a beautiful, strong and imposing horse who would catch any breeder's eye."
The former Coolmore stallion became the first British Classic winner by the great Invincible Spirit when landing the 2,000 Guineas in 2019 from subsequent Queen Elizabeth II Stakes scorer King Of Change.
Gedge-Gibson added: "For a family-run stud being given the chance to stand a Futurity winner and the only Invincible Spirit to win the 2,000 Guineas is what dreams are made of. We are very grateful for the partnership who've purchased him and Coolmore for allowing him to come to us."
That Futurity Trophy win came when defeating future Irish 2,000 Guineas hero Phoenix Of Spain at Doncaster, with top-class miler Circus Maximus back in fourth.
The half-brother to Dewhurst winner and world champion three-year-old St Mark's Basilica was also a ready debut winner at two and a narrow second to fellow subsequent Classic winner Persian King in the Autumn Stakes at Newmarket that term.
Having retired to Coolmore in 2020 for a fee of €22,500, his leading progeny include Listed winner Myconian and stakes performers Thekingofmyheart and Magna Memory.
"He has some quality and depth of progeny yet to come through and with big numbers still to come. He's had some lovely yearlings sell to top judges and the following year of foals to run for him," Gedge-Gibson said.
"We are sure, given the chance, he will produce more black-type winners and we'll be eagerly watching for the Group horses to come. We're excited to be able to make him accessible for British breeders and to keep a horse like him in this country."
Magna Grecia will be stand alongside established sire Charming Thought and Roseman, a stakes-winning son of Kingman and Immortal Verse's sister Go Lovely Rose. The Queen Elizabeth II Stakes runner-up welcomes his first runners next year.
A fee will be announced for Magna Grecia at a later date, while March Hare will be inviting breeders to an open day in January to view the stallions.
