Tivaci to join National Stud in Newmarket from New Zealand

European breeders have an exciting new stallion from the southern hemisphere to factor into their mating plans for 2018 with the news that Tivaci, a Group 1-winning son of High Chaparral, is to shuttle to the National Stud in Newmarket.

Tivaci's addition to the National Stud roster is timely to say the least, as it was announced in recent weeks that Toronado – another top-class performer by High Chaparral – was to leave the operation to continue his covering career in Normandy.

Tivaci was bred by legendary trainer Bart Cummings out of the winning Fastnet Rock mare Breccia, a half-sister to Group 1 Toorak Handicap winner Allez Wonder and Group 3 scorer Pretty Pins.

A $250,000 Inglis Easter yearling graduate, he was saddled by Mike Moroney to win the All Aged Stakes over seven furlongs at Randwick in April and to finish placed in two other Group 1s – the Toorak Handicap and Cantala Stakes both over a mile – last October.

The five-year-old, who also notched three other black-type victories from five furlongs to a mile, is covering his first book of mares at Waikato Stud in New Zealand in the coming months.

“Tivaci has a unique pedigree for a top-class sprinter/miler,” said Mark Chittick of Waikato Stud. “He's a good 16 hands high and an absolute beast.

“Since arriving at Waikato, he has taken everything in his stride. Knowing how well he has done here, and how well he has been received, we're extremely confident that breeders will be just as impressed when he flies out to Britain at the end of the year.”

Tivaci is set to join Gregorian and Marcel at the National Stud next year.

“This is a very exciting, groundbreaking venture for the stud and we are very much looking forward to working with one of the major stallion farms in New Zealand,” said Ben Sangster, outgoing chairman of the National Stud.

A northern hemisphere fee for Tivaci will be announced at a later date.
