Sumbe's star miler Charyn likely to have at least two more runs this season before retiring to stud
One of this year's breakout stars Charyn will not race on at five, instead the son of Dark Angel will embark on his stallion career for owner Nurlan Bizakov's Sumbe operation.
In a statement on Tuesday, Bizakov wrote: "I am delighted to announce that Charyn, the leading miler in Europe and impressive winner of this year's Queen Anne Stakes and Prix Jacque le Marois, will retire at the end of the racing season to become the fifth Group 1 winner on Sumbe's stallion roster."
The four-year-old grey is scheduled to run in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot on Qipco British Champions' Day later this month, and in his statement Bizakov revealed that the dual Group 1 winner could run in the Breeders' Cup Mile and/or Japan's Mile Championship.
He will then retire to Sumbe's stallion base at Haras de Montfort et Preaux ahead of the 2025 breeding season. He will join Group/Grade 1 winners Mishriff, Golden Horde, Belbek and Angel Bleu, who, like, Charyn is a son of Dark Angel.
"I cannot wait to unveil Charyn in his new role," Bizakov added. "I am already thankful for the incredible hype and growing momentum arising about him."
Bred by Guy O'Callaghan's Grangemore Stud out of Futoon, four times placed in Listed contests, Charyn is a full-brother to the Group 2 Mill Reef Stakes winner Wings Of War.
He was offered by Grangemore as a yearling at Tattersalls Book 2, where he was purchased for 250,000gns by Sumbe and sent into training with Roger Varian.
In 17 starts, he has finished out of the first three only on three occasions and in addition to his pair of top-level triumphs he has been placed four more times in Group 1 company, including when second last time out in the Prix du Moulin.
Fourth in the Irish 2,000 Guineas last year, before that Charyn was a classy juvenile and won the Group 2 Criterium de Maisons-Lafitte and was third in the Mill Reef.
That two-year-old career, allied to his longevity, was highlighted by Varian.
"Charyn has proved to be an exceptional racehorse, showing both durability and class," said the trainer. "He was precocious enough to win on his racecourse debut in August of his two-year-old season.
"Charyn has raced consistently throughout his three and four-year-old seasons, showing exceptional soundness of both body and mind."
He is one of 17 individual Group/Grade 1 winners for Yeomanstown's excellent sire Dark Angel, a source of speed, talent and tenacity, qualities which Charyn has displayed in abundance.
His two-year-old full-sister made 850,000gns at Book 1 last year, again purchased by Bizakov from Grangemore, who offer his yearling full-sister at Book 1 this week; she is due to come under the hammer at Tattersalls on Wednesday.
