So, where does the speedily bred Mr Adjudicator get his stamina from?

Mr Adjudicator, winner of the Grade 1 Tattersalls Ireland Spring Juvenile Hurdle at Leopardstown on Sunday, presents a head-scratcher for pedigree buffs as he is by Camacho, a sire best known for his sharp and speedy stock.

Camacho, who stands at Yeomanstown Stud at a fee of €7,500, was a Listed winner over 6f and Group 3-placed over 7f in his own racing career.

As a stallion he has supplied 11 stakes winners, the majority of whom have been fast and precocious – think Flying Childers Stakes winner Green Door, Prix de Cabourg scorer My Catch and Cheveley Park Stakes runner-up Winning Express.

So where does Mr Adjudicator get his staying power from?

The Willie Mullins-trained gelding is one of four jumps winners by Camacho, who would not be the first speedy son of Danehill to get a good one in the National Hunt sphere; Danehill Dancer, for example, was responsible for the likes of Thomas Edison and Unaccompanied.

We might also note that Camacho is a three-parts brother to Cabriole, the dam of Hornet's Nest, a decent hurdler in Australia, and that there are stamina strains in his pedigree, as his third dam is Lancashire Oaks winner Andaleeb, also ancestress of high-class middle-distance fillies Modern Look and Shutter Speed.

Mr Adjudicator also owes his ability to stay two miles to elements in his distaff pedigree.

He was bred by William and Lisa Harmes out of the unraced mare Attlongglast, a daughter of Groom Dancer, a Prix Lupin hero who stood as a Flat stallion but left lots of jumps winners including American Spin, Son Of Flicka and Temoin.

Mr Adjudicator is a half-brother to three other winners – Multi Bene, a three-time winner over 7f to 1m, Multitask, the winner of 12 races from 5f to 1m, and Multigifted, a four-time winner all the way from 6f to 2m.

Attlongglast is a half-sister to Devil To Pay, a dual winner over hurdles for Alan King, Bana Wu, third in the Wolferton Handicap, and The Galloping Shoe, who took three races between 1m and an extended 1m2f.

Further back it is the family of Lingfield Oaks Trial winner Ausherra, the dam of Vintage Stakes winner Stragetic Prince and Yorkshire, a smart performer on the Flat and over hurdles.

So, although Mr Adjudicator's claims to be a Grade 1-winning hurdler are not obvious, he must have inherited every drop of stamina available from his better-staying distant relatives.

Attlongglast has a three-year-old colt by Captain Gerrard called Vlannon, a two-year-old colt by Heeraat called Arbuckle and a yearling filly by Heeraat, while she also visited that sire last year.

William and Lisa Harmes have been supporters of the Racing Post Foal Gallery since it was launched, and Mr Adjudicator featured as a newborn in the slot back in 2014.
