Marbach State Stud in Germany will welcome the distinctively coloured white overo stallion Silvery Moon for the 2018 breeding season.

The six-year-old was picked up by his trainer Mario Hofer for €12,000 as a yearling at Arqana in 2012, and was raced by his handler together with Cologne Racing Club president Eckhard Sauren and Franz, Prince of Auersperg.

Trained by Hofer, Silvery Moon won five races from 48 starts, and even has his own Facebook page with over 10,000 fans.

Bred by Mette Campbell-Andenaes, he is a son of brown overo stallion I Was Framed and the bay Alzao mare Artzola.

Silvery Moon's paternal grandsire Racey Remarque was a US stallion with similarly unusual markings, and he in turn is a grandson of influential US sire Halo.

Silvery Moon will move into his stable in Marbach in mid-November.

The Opera House delivers filly foal

While on the subject of unusually coloured thoroughbreds, Windsor Park Stud in New Zealand have released pictures of The Opera House, a white mare, with her newborn Mongolian Khan filly, who is the same colour.

The Opera House, a winning daughter of Zabeel, has produced three other white foals - a three-year-old High Chaparral filly, a two-year-old Shamexpress colt and a yearling filly by Charm Spirit.
