One World continues alliance for Vaughan Marshall with Cape Guineas success

There was an appropriate theme as new South African sire sensation One World claimed his first top-level winner in Saturday's Hollywoodbets Cape Guineas at Kenilworth.
Drakenstein Stud's resident broke the national record for winners for a first-season sire when securing 30 last season, a total which included his new Group 1 hero One Stripe.
One World himself was bought and trained by Vaughan Marshall and the son of Captain Al ran third in the 2018 Cape Guineas before landing the 2020 Cape Town Met.
His son One Stripe was also bought by Marshall, for owner Rikesh Sewgoolam, as the R1,400,000 (£62,000/€75,000) top lot at the 2023 Cape Racing Ready To Run And Unbroken Two-Year-Old Sale.
A winner in Group 2 company last time, the odds-on favourite was allowed to drift towards the centre and then to the stands' rail under Gavin Lerena and was still more than good enough to score by a length and a quarter from the field on the far side. With the Justin Snaith pair Eight On Eighteen second and Great Plains third, it was a one-two-three for Drakenstein as a breeder.
"He will keep improving and his acceleration is fantastic," Lerena said of a colt who has won five of seven starts.
One World has sired three individual stakes winners and was standing in the Western Cape for R60,000 this year.
