Hello Youmzain and City Light fees up as Haras d'Etreham reveals 2025 line-up
Opening mark for champion miler Charyn also revealed in Sumbe announcement
Haras d'Etreham was among a number of French studs to announce its fees on Tuesday. Onesto, retired to stud at the beginning of 2024, will be available to breeders in 2025 for €12,000, a slight reduction on this year.
The Group 1-winning son of Frankel hails from one of Juddmonte’s most illustrious families, that of Hasili. A standout at the American breeze-ups, he was an easy winner on his debut at two, while he capped his career at four with a series of thrilling performances against the world's best horses.
Supported by some of the most prominent French and international breeders, Onesto covered 120 mares in 2024.
Victor Ludorum will stand at Etreham at an unchanged €15,000 for 2025, having been at Darley’s Haras du Logis until now. Hello Youmzain, on track to make history among French sires with his first two-year-olds this year, is set at €40,000, up from €22,500 in 2024.
Currently Europe’s leading first-season sire, he leads by both Group winners and black-type horses and has a 40 per cent win rate from just over 40 runners.
With just 41 runners to date, Persian King has already produced 14 winners and has seen 63 per cent of his runners finish in the first three. Fully booked in 2023 with 140 mares covered, Persian King covered just over 100 mares this year and will stand at the same fee of €25,000 for the 2025 season.
Group 3 Prix Miesque winner Mimos topped a stellar year for City Light, who is in his sophomore season and he will stand in 2025 for €10,000, up from €7,000.
A major addition to the French stallion roster, Metropolitan, the only Classic winner by Zarak and the best miler of his generation in France, will debut at €15,000, as already announced.
Etrehan's Nicolas de Chambure said: "We are approaching this breeding season with great excitement. Hello Youmzain and Persian King’s first two-year-old crops have made remarkable debuts. City Light is again in the spotlight with his second generation, and Victor Ludorum’s yearlings were very impressive and warmly received by buyers.
“Onesto was strongly supported for his first year, and we are thrilled to welcome a new top-level sire this season . . . we couldn’t ask for better!
“We are delighted to stand sires with these high calibre profiles and, as always, are committed to meeting the expectations and needs of breeders, who we wish an excellent upcoming breeding season."
Charyn introduced at €35,000 at Sumbe
Sumbe's five-strong roster in 2025 will be led by new arrival and champion miler Charyn, who is being prepared for one more start later this month in Asia after his fine victory at Ascot on Champions Day.
A statement from Sumbe said: "Charyn’s achievements in 2024 have been nothing less than remarkable with a historical treble of stallion-making Group 1s in the Queen Anne Stakes, the Prix Jacques le Marois and the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes.
"He is a rightful champion-miler in Europe and perhaps the best horse of the year. We are looking forward to running him in Japan on November 17, which will mark his final race before coming to France as a stallion with a fee of €35,000."
Co-leading the line-up in will be world champion Mishriff, who will be standing his second season and has been trimmed to €16,000 from €17,500.
A pair of juvenile champions at Nurlan Bizakov's French stud, Angel Bleu at €8,000 (from €9,000) and Belbek at €6,000 (from €7,000) are both coming off busy first seasons. "As they represent two important yet separate bloodlines, they can be used alternatively for most mares looking to build on proven stallion pedigrees and stallion-making race records," added the Sumbe statement.
Another member of the Dark Angel tribe like Charyn and Angel Bleu, Golden Horde showed some promise from his first crop and is in at a fee of €4,000 (from €6,000).
There was further news on the four-strong roster from Haras de Colleville. The operation's leading light Galiway remains at €30,000 for another year. Old stager Kendargent was trimmed slightly to €12,000 from €15,000. The precocious Goken was also dropped from €15,000 to €10,000 while Soft Light dipped to €4,000 from €5,000.
