Group-winning Australian sprinter to join Aidan O'Brien as connections eye top targets in Europe
Coolmore announced on Tuesday that Storm Boy, a son of Justify, will be transferred from Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott at Tulloch Lodge in Australia to Ireland, where he is set to continue his career under the care of trainer Aidan O’Brien.
The high-class colt, who finished third as favourite in the Group 1 Golden Slipper, will join Ballydoyle with a view to competing in some of Europe’s biggest sprint races.
Prepared by Waterhouse and Bott, Storm Boy was an emphatic winner of the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes first-up in August before placing in The Run To The Rose.
He was beaten just over half a length when fourth to Broadsiding in the Group 1 Golden Rose and finished within two lengths of Bella Nipotina when eighth in The Everest last time out.
Coolmore purchased a managing stake in Storm Boy following his Magic Millions Classic win earlier this year, and stand his sire Justify at their American base.
Storm Boy could find himself on a collision course with another of Coolmore's top three-year-olds in the Chris Waller-trained Switzerland, after Waller flagged a possible Royal Ascot tilt for the son of Snitzel next year following his victory in last Saturday's Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington.
