Gormley retires to Spendthrift Farm
Son of Malibu Moon to be offered as part of the Share The Upside deal
Gormley, a multiple Grade 1 winner, has been retired from racing and will take up stallion duties at Spendthrift Farm for the 2018 breeding season.
The three-year-old will be offered through the operation's Share The Upside programme with his fee set at $12,500 on a two-year commitment. Breeders who use Gormley this way will earn a lifetime breeding right in 2020 after having two live foals by the stallion and paying the stud fee.
For those who do not want to use the Share The Upside programme, he has had his fee set at $10,000.
Bred by Castleton Lyons and Kilboy Estate, Gormley is the first foal out of the stakes-winning Bernstein mare Race To Urga and was trained by John Shirreffs for Jerry and Ann Moss. As a two-year-old he landed the Grade 1 FrontRunner Stakes and at three this year he won the Grade 3 Sham Stakes and the Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby.
Ned Toffey, general manager at Spendthrift Farm, said: "Malibu Moon continues to add to his legacy as AP Indy's best sire, so we're very excited to now be able to stand one of his best sons.
"Gormley joins Orb as Malibu Moon's only multiple Grade 1 winner at stud, and Gormley is his sire's lone two-year-old Grade 1 winner at stud. We believe he's a great opportunity for breeders through our Share The Upside programme, and we invite everyone to come out and see him at the farm."
