French champion juvenile Ultra to stand at Haras du Logis
Group 1-winning son of Manduro to join his sire on Darley’s French roster
Ultra, who was crowned French champion two-year-old in 2015, has been retired to stand at Haras du Logis alongside his sire Manduro, where he will be offered at a fee of €7,000. A limited number of lifetime breeding rights will also be available.
Trained by Andre Fabre, Ultra won all three starts at two, defeating subsequent Group 1 winner Mont Ormel on debut at Clairefontaine and winning the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere in record time on his final juvenile outing.
On his belated seasonal debut at three, Ultra was a close second in the 1m2f Group 2 Prix Eugene Adam. The colt also won on his sole start at four, when triumphing in the 1m1f Listed Prix Jacques Laffitte at Maisons-Laffitte in April.
"Ultra is a strong horse with particularly impressive conformation," said Sam Bullard, director of stallions for Darley.
"He's a record-breaking champion two-year-old with Classic bloodlines and I'm sure breeders will be delighted when they see him at Haras du Logis.
"He is a fine addition to Darley's increasingly impressive roster in France, and it's wonderful to see Ultra alongside his sire as an example of what a great type Manduro can produce."
A Darley homebred, Ultra is a half-brother to the Group 3 Prix Minerve winner Synopsis and one of seven winners out of the placed Nashwan mare Epitome, a half-sister to the Canadian Grade 2 winner Calista, out of Proskona, champion three-year-old filly in Italy in 1984.
The announcement follows on from confirmation that top-flight winners Al Wukair, Wings Of Eagles and Zelzal would all be bolstering the French stallion ranks in 2018.
