Dam of exciting Without Parole set for another date with Frankel

Without You Babe, the dam of last Saturday's eye-catching debut winner Without Parole, will be making a return visit to Banstead Manor Stud to be covered by the juvenile's sire, Frankel, in 2018.

Without Parole, the fifth foal out of the unraced Lemon Drop Kid mare, is a half-brother to last year's Breeders' Cup Dirt mile hero Tamarkuz and created a big impression with a six-length victory over his rivals at Newcastle for trainer John Gosden.

He is one of a number of horses bred by Vancouver-based John Gunther and his daughter Tanya. Gunther has been breeding since the early 1990s and has a broodmare band of around 20 mares with some of those based in Europe to be bred to international sires.

In 2015 he had the distinction of breeding two Group/Graded winners on two sides of the world when Materiality landed the Florida Derby and Tamarkuz scored in the Group 2 Godolphin Mile in Dubai.

It was in 1990 that Gunther purchased Glenwood Farm in Kentucky and he has since gone on to breed dual Grade 1 scorer First Samurai and co-bred champion US two-year-old Stevie Wonderboy.

A regular visitor to Royal Ascot, Gunther was in attendance at the meeting when Frankel won the Queen Anne Stakes in stunning fashion in 2012.

Of the decision to send his homebred mare Without You Babe to the dual world champion, Gunther said: "To me, Frankel is the greatest racehorse in the last century. Watching his races and the way he decimated the opposition, I just had to breed to him.

"It was the happiest moment in years for me when Juddmonte accepted the breeding."

The fact that Without You Babe - a half-sister to dual Grade 1 winner Stay Thirsty and currently in foal to Dubawi - has another visit to Frankel on her dance card next year has given Gunther even more to look forward to on the back of Without Parole's first success.

Gunther added: "I did to get to watch Without Parole's race live and his performance took my breath away. It was like my dream came true and for next year his trainer John Gosden will map out a good plan for his three-year-old season."
