Being the most expensive yearling of any sire comes with a certain amount of expectation, but when you are by record-breaking winner machine Kodiac, there is even more to live up to.

So, having spent 925,000gns to secure Fairyland from the draft of her breeder Tally-Ho Stud at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, the Coolmore partners will have been delighted with the striking debut made by the Aidan O'Brien-trained filly at Naas on Monday.

Fairyland displayed plenty of the qualities that have won her sire so many fans, as she showed bags of pace and a professional attitude, before putting her head down and running right to the line to score by a length and three-quarters.

The daughter of Kodiac - who set a new benchmark for two-year-old winners in a single crop with a staggering 61 in 2017 - is the fourth foal out of Queenofthefairies, making her a sister to smart sprinter Atletico and a half-sister to Group 3 1,000 Guineas Trial winner Now Or Never, who went on to land an Australian Group 2 for Robert Smerdon.

Fairyland also has a yearling half-sister by champion sprinter Muhaarar.

This is a family that has tended to come to hand early as Queenofthefairies is a Pivotal half-sister to five-time Group 1 winner Dream Ahead, whose two-year-old season included victories in the Prix Morny and the Middle Park Stakes.

That pair's dam, Land Of Dreams, was also a talented juvenile, having landed the 1997 Flying Childers Stakes for Mark Johnston.

Fairyland - who cost more than double the second-most expensive Kodiac yearling, the 460,000gns Thrilled - looks well on course for a race like the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot, a meeting at which Kodiac has been represented by two-year-old winners such as Ardad and Prince Of Lir in recent years.
