Classic prospects accumulating for sophomore stallion Intello
Young Rascal enters Derby picture after smooth Chester Vase victory
Classic prospects are queuing up for Cheveley Park Stud-based sophomore sire Intello as, just two days after he supplied his first Pattern winner, son Young Rascal was an authoritative winner of the Group 3 Chester Vase at Chester on Wednesday.
The victory comes hot on the heels of another of his sons, Intellogent, taking the Group 3 Prix de Guiche at Chantilly, a traditional trial for the Prix du Jockey Club, on Monday.
Now with Young Rascal, Intello looks to have a prime candidate for next month's Investec Derby. He is one of two sons of the stallion entered in the Epsom Classic alongside the Andrew Balding-trained King And Empire, whose one and only start last season saw him run out the winner of a mile maiden at Kempton.
Ecurie Peregrine bred Young Rascal out of the Clodovil mare Rock My Soul, a triple Listed winner over a mile in Germany and a half-sister to the German Group 3 winner Rock My Love and Listed scorer Rock My Heart.
Young Rascal is the first of Rock My Soul's produce to have hit the racetrack but the dam also has Tilda, an unraced two-year-old filly by Motivator in training with Andre Fabre, as well as a yearling colt by Camelot and a four-year-old filly by Pour Moi called Tallulah who has yet to run.
He was sourced from the 2016 Arqana August Yearling Sale - an auction where Cheshire Oaks winner Magic Wand also emerged from - by Stroud Coleman Bloodstock for €215,000 from the Haras du Mezeray draft.
Young Rascal is inbred 3x3 to Danehill, as Prix du Jockey Club winner Intello is by Galileo out of a Danehill mare, while Clodovil is a son of the late shuttle stallion supreme.
Intello spent the first two of seasons at Cheveley Park Stud before standing at Haras du Quesnay in Normandy in 2016 and 2017.
Last year it was announced he would return to the Newmarket operation and he has stood the 2018 breeding season there at a fee of £20,000.
