Charm Spirit off the mark as Diviner bolts up at Wolverhampton

Charm Spirit, a three-time Group 1-winning miler for owner Sheikh Abdulla Bin Khalifa Al Thani, recorded his first winner when Diviner bolted up by five lengths to land the opening 5f novice auction stakes at Wolverhampton on Monday.

The switch to a sounder surface brought about much improvement in the Mark Johnston-trained filly, who had finished seventh to the exciting Heeraat filly Cotubanama on heavy ground on debut at Salisbury in late April.

Bred by Ennistown Stud, Diviner is owned by the Kingsley Park 8 syndicate and was purchased by her trainer for €14,000 from the Castlebridge Consignment at the Goffs Orby Sale.

Diviner is the third winner from six runners out of Water Fountain - an unraced sister to Group 3 winner Spring Oak, who placed twice in Grade 1 company including in the 2001 Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf at Belmont Park - and Goodwood Listed winner Fragrant Hill, the dam of a pair of elite winners in Fragrant Mix and Alpine Rose.

They in turn are out of the 1986 Prince of Wales's Stakes scorer English Spring.

Charm Spirit has gone between Tweenhills Farm and Stud and the Aga Khan's Haras de Bonneval since his retirement from racing and is standing the 2018 season at Bonneval at a €20,000 fee.

The seven-year-old son of Invincible Spirit also shuttles to Windsor Park Stud in Cambridge, New Zealand, where he has 141 foals on the ground.
