Camille Pissarro a French masterpiece for bargain buy Entreat
For James Cloney and family of Clara Stud, the purchase of Entreat, in foal to Lethal Force for just 14,000gns at the Tattersalls July Sale of 2016 has proven to be an inspired one.
At Longchamp on Sunday afternoon, Camille Pissarro became his dam Entreat's second Group 1 winner when getting the better of a tight finish to defeat Rashabar in the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere.
The Wootton Bassett colt, his sire's tenth top level winner and the first conceived by Wootton Bassett as a Coolmore stallion, cost MV Magnier and White Birch Farm 1,250,000gns at Tattersalls Book 1. He is a half-brother to Commonwealth Cup winner Golden Horde, who also won the Richmond Stakes and was second in the Middle Park and third in the Sprint Cup, July Cup and Prix Morny.
Entreat was carrying Golden Horde when the daughter of Pivotal was sold by her breeders Cheveley Park Stud to BBA Ireland eight years ago and the son of Lethal Force retired to stud in France, where he stands under the Sumbe banner and has his first runners this season.
Entreat has produced eight winners from nine runners with her other black-type performers the Listed Pipalong Stakes winner Exhort, by Dutch Art, and Mehmas gelding Line Of Departure, who was successful in the Cathedral Stakes.
Entreat has a yearling daughter by Dark Angel, who was withdrawn from Tattersalls October Book 1, and was covered by Justify this year.
She is a winning half-sister to Producer, successful at Group 2 and 3 level, and they are out of River Saint, an Irish River half-sister to the outstanding Serena's Song, who was North America's champion three-year-old filly in 1995 and won 11 Grade 1 races.
The daughter of Rahy produced Coronation Stakes winner Sophisticat and Serena's Cat, dam of Grade 1 winner and young sire Honor Code.
Serena's Song's sister, aptly named Serena's Sister, produced Princess Serena, who was purchased by Bobby and Honora Donworth's Roundhill Stud at Keeneland in November 2003 and foaled Group 1 winner Zabeel Prince and Swettenham Stud sire Puissance De Lune.
Princess Serena is also the granddam of dual Group 1 winner Rizeena, the Grade 1-placed Summer Romance and Group 3 Solario Stakes winner Field Of Gold, who was fourth to Camille Pissarro in the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere.
