Attraction delivers Frankel brother to 2,000 Guineas hope Elarqam
The Duke of Roxburghe's star mare Attraction, winner of the 1,000 Guineas in 2004, delivered a colt foal by another Guineas winner in Frankel last month - making him a full brother to Saturday's leading Qipco 2,000 Guineas contender Elarqam.
Of the mare's new arrival, who is pictured at three weeks old with his dam, the Duke of Roxburghe said: "I was hugely relieved and delighted that the Frankel colt arrived healthy and well, he's a terrific looking foal."
The 17-year-old daughter of Efisio, who is also the dam of Group 3 scorer Fountain Of Youth and the Grade 3-placed Cushion, is booked to visit the dual world champion once again later this year and when asked about the liaison in his mating plans in February, the duke said: "It'd be wonderful to have a filly, so we're going to give it another go.
"Frankel's a hugely exciting stallion and the nick has worked already once, so why not go again?"
Prior to that intended date, the duke will is looking forward to seeing how the Shadwell-owned and Mark Johnston-trained Elarqam runs in the big race at Newmarket.
The duke added: "How could you not be? As one great trainer said, the closer you get to the race the more nervous you get."
