Al Shaqab's Group 1 winner Toronado posts first winner
Homebred Baylagan wins on debut
Al Shaqab were celebrating on Sunday as their homebred Baylagan scored on debut at Lion d'Angers and in the process became the first winner for Haras de Bouquetot resident Toronado.
Trained by Simone Brogi, the juvenile was also the first starter in France for the son of High Chaparral and got the better of Alissachope to take the spoils by a short head.
Baylagan is out of the placed Muhtathir mare Al Waghaa, herself a half-sister to the dam of another Haras de Bouquetot resident in Group 1 scorer Style Vendome.
Toronado was trained by Richard Hannon snr and Richard Hannon to win six races with his biggest victories coming in the Sussex and Queen Anne Stakes.
Retired to stud in 2015, Toronado spent three seasons at the National Stud in Newmarket before making the move at the end of last year to Haras de Bouquetot for 2018. He is standing this season at a fee of €12,000.
