International Cataloguing Standards Committee issue changes to placed status

Fourth-placed finishes will no longer count as being placed in races for the purposes of sales catalogues, a review by the European sub-committee of the International Cataloguing Standards Committee (ICSC) has announced.

The group, which includes representatives of the Tattersalls, Goffs, Arqana, BBAG and Osarus sales companies, also announced a change to procedure over some AQPS (non-thoroughbred) races.

The principal announcements were reached after full consultation with the Society of International Thoroughbred Auctioneers (SITA), who have approved the changes.

A change to the nature of placed finishes will not be retrospective, so a fourth-placed position prior to January 1 2020 will continue to be described as placed in catalogues.

From January 1 of this year, 13 graded AQPS Flat races in France have also been admitted to Part IV of the International Cataloguing Standards.

Performances can be allocated as restricted jumps black type in jumps/ National Hunt catalogues from May 1 onwards. This change will be retrospective to include 2018 AQPS graded races, and they will be granted ‘R’ (restricted) status. These races will not appear as restricted jumps black type in any Flat catalogues.
