'I'm looking forward to a new chapter' - Martin Buick joins De Burgh Equine

Martin Buick is set to begin a new chapter of his career when he joins Hubie de Burgh's De Burgh Equine prior to the Arqana August Yearling Sale.

"Hubie approached me recently to see if I would consider joining forces with him," said Buick, who spent the last five and a half years assisting Alan Cooper at the Niarchos family's racing office.

"It was a very tough decision to leave the Niarchos family racing office but I'm really looking forward to the new chapter and challenge ahead. I cannot thank Maria Niarchos-Gouazé, Electra Niarchos and my boss Alan Cooper enough for the journey over the last five years.

"My time working for the Niarchos family has given me invaluable experience on an international level and I count myself lucky to have been part of their distinguished organisation."

Buick, a graduate of the Irish National Stud course and the BHA's graduate scheme, is from a family steeped in racing success being a brother to leading rider William and a son of Walter, an eight-time champion Scandinavian jockey.

Buick spent his formative years gaining experience at Irish Thoroughbred Marketing and Archie Alexander Racing in Australia, where he also worked at Arrowfield Stud.

"I'm looking forward to welcoming Martin onto the team at De Burgh Equine," said De Burgh. "The Niarchos family are one of the world's most successful and respected owner-breeders of modern times and Martin's experience gained with them can only be an asset to us."

"I'm very sorry Martin has elected to leave the Niarchos family's racing team and I wish him the best in his new venture," added Cooper.
