'I look forward to showing him off to breeders' - new home for Group 1 winner Dubai Mile
Dubai Mile, the Group 1-winning son of ill-fated European champion Roaring Lion, will stand at Coolagown Stud in County Cork next year.
The strapping four-year-old was bred by the prestigious nursery Skymarc Farm out of the Group 1-placed High Chaparral mare Beach Bunny, also the dam of black-type winners Beach Belle and Naadirr. Further back it is the family of top-level scorers England’s Legend, Miss France and Miss Tahiti.
He is the only stallion son of Roaring Lion, whose sole crop of foals has also delivered Group winners Embesto, Kingswood, Middle Earth, Queen Of The Pride and Running Lion.
Roaring Lion was by Kitten’s Joy, also responsible for leading first-season sire Kameko, and is from the same El Prado line as breed-shaper Medaglia D’Oro and top dual-purpose sire Spanish Moon.
Dubai Mile lived up to those impressive genes when trained by Mark and Charlie Johnston for owner Ahmad Al Shaikh. He won three races at two, including when battling to victory over high-class colts Arrest and Adelaide River in the Criterium de Saint-Cloud, a race whose roll of honour features Darshaan, Pistolet Bleu, Poliglote, Voix Du Nord and Fame And Glory.
He also finished a gallant second to subsequent Dante Stakes winner The Foxes in the Royal Lodge Stakes at two, and was far from disgraced when fifth in the 2,000 Guineas at three.
Dubai Mile stood his first season at stud at Manton Park in Wiltshire this year, when his fee was advertised at £7,500.
Coolagown Stud’s David Stack said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be standing Dubai Mile, a very special horse as one of the best colts by the much-missed Roaring Lion, on behalf of Ahmad Al Shaikh. He’s a stunning individual with an incredible action, and both we and Ahmad will support him with some nice mares.
“I look forward to showing him off to breeders and thank Federico Barberini for arranging for him to stand here.”
Dubai Mile will stand at Coolagown Stud at €4,000 live foal.
