History the latest chapter in story for Galileo and Prize Exhibit
Galileo dominated the card when Stone Age routed his rivals in the Derby Trial
When the sire is the phenomenal Galileo and the dam a sister to a Sussex Stakes winner Mohaather, the chances of the resulting foal turning out to be rather good should be substantially higher than the average mating.
History had taken three runs to shelve her maiden tag at two for Aidan O'Brien and the Coolmore partners when striking at Gowran Park in September last year and her cosy success in the Cornelscourt Stakes followed 12 months on from that of subsequent Prix de Diane heroine in Joan Of Arc.
The daughter of the late, great sire was bred by Barronstown Stud and sold to Coolmore's MV Magnier for a cool 2,800,000gns as second top lot of Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale. With her first Group success and outstanding pedigree, it is perhaps easier to see why she cost seven figures.
History's dam in turn cost a pretty sum when selling to the Nagle family's Barronstown from Jamie Railton for 775,000gns at the December Mare Sale in 2017.
The daughter of Showcasing was a four-time stakes winner with wins in the Grade 2 San Clemente Handicap at Del Mar and Monrovia Stakes at Santa Anita her two career highlights. She was also second in the Grade 2 Yellow Ribbon Handicap and third in the Grade 1 Del Mar Oaks.
Prize Exhibit is in turn out of Roodeye, making her a sister to Sussex Stakes scorer and Nunnery Stud sire Mohaather as well as a half-sibling to Roodle, the dam of 2018 Queen Anne Stakes scorer Accidental Agent.
That family is credited to Gaie Johnson Houghton, who has nurtured the family for five generations with husband Fulke, having initially bred from the fifth dam, Sirnelta.
Prize Exhibit also has a two-year-old brother to History named Joaquin Sorolla, while Roodle has an unnamed two-year-old Showcasing half-brother to Accidental Agent and produced a filly foal by Frankel this term.
History, who is the first foal out of Prize Exhibit, was continuing her sire's red-hot run of form in this week's Classic trials, having also been responsible for Chester Vase and Oaks scorers Changingoftheguard and Thoughts Of June as well as Dee Stakes victor Star Of India and Lingfield winner United Nations.
Galileo was to deliver another new Classic favourite when last season's Criterium de Saint-Cloud second Stone Age dominated proceedings in the Leopardstown Derby Trial.
The White Birch Farm homebred is the third foal out of the winning Bonanza Creek, an Anabaa sister to Prix de Flore scorer and multiple Group 1-placed Board Meeting and a half-sister to Diane heroine Bright Sky.
