Historic Classic-producing Fonthill Stud in Dorset is made available to lease
Stud was founded by Hughie Morrison's grandfather, the first Lord Margadale
The historic Fonthill Stud, from where several Classic winners have been raised, including Oaks heroines Juliette Marny and Scintillate, is being advertised for lease.
Situated ten miles from Shaftesbury in Wiltshire, the stud was founded by trainer Hughie Morrison's grandfather, the first Lord Margadale, in 1952, who had bought his first horses from the Newmarket sales that year.
The stud, on offer with Windsor Clive International, went through a golden spell in the 1970s via victories in the Oaks (Juliette Marny, 1975 and Scintillate, 1979), Irish Oaks (Juliette Marny, 1975) and the St Leger (Julio Mariner, 1978). It had also produced the 1963 Nassau Stakes winner Spree.
Fonthill Stud, which has around 50 acres of railed paddocks and 31 boxes in three different yards, including foal boxes, is also responsible for more recent stakes winners such as Nicobar, Intrepid Jack, Kasumi, Bodhicitta and Tropbeau.
William Harford of Windsor Clive International said: “The stud at Fonthill is an ideal base for a new or smaller commercial business or at which to house a private band of broodmares."
