Highly promising youngsters light up opening two races at Ascot
Love Is You is a Kingman half-sister to Group 2 winner Glorious Journey
The opening two novice contests at Ascot on Saturday saw two highly promising youngsters with eyecatching pedigrees come to the fore.
Akmaam, trained by Brian Meehan, made virtually all to strike by a ready four lengths in the 7f novice stakes and earn some quotes for next year's Qipco 2,000 Guineas.
By Coolmore's new recruit and rising star Wootton Bassett, he is out of the unraced Galileo mare Misty Night, a promising sign for the in-form sire given he will be a likely outcross for the mares by the perennial champion sire.
The third foal from Misty Night, Akmaam is a half-brother to the useful Radiant Treasure and was providing owner-breeder Hamdan Al Maktoum with another winner in what has been a fine season for the famous blue and white silks.
Just over half an hour later, Kingman filly Love Is You rattled home late to make a winning debut for Roger Charlton and Jason Watson in the 7f fillies' novice event.
By Juddmonte's exciting young sire, whose dual top-level scorer Palace Pier remains unbeaten in five starts to date, the juvenile is out of the 2012 Coronation Stakes scorer Fallen For You and therefore a half-sister to the Group 2-winning Glorious Journey.
Bred by Philippa Cooper of Normandy Stud, Love Is You hails from the family of Listed scorer Fallen Idol and the Group 2-placed Fallen In Love. She earned some quotes for next year's Investec Oaks.
Behind Love Is You in third was another Kingman filly in Monsoon Moon, a Juddmonte half-sister to last year's St Leger hero Logician. Her dam, Scuffle, is a relation to Group 1 winner Cityscape and Banstead Manor Stud resident Bated Breath. She has also produced the Listed-winning Frankel entire Collide and foaled a colt by the sire this year.
