David Lowe will have an emotional runner on Thursday when his half-brother to the ill-fated Kachy takes his first steps on a racecourse at Pontefract.

Kachy was of huge significance to an owner who began on a small scale, proving a track-record breaking all-weather champion who was also third in last year's Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot.

He suffered a fatal injury at Lingfield in February at the time a stud career was being planned.

Thankfully Lowe has Bakersboy to look forward to in division one of the procurementseminars.co.uk EBF Maiden Stakes. Like Katchy, he is trained by Tom Dascombe and was knocked down to SackvilleDonald for 100,000gns at Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale.

By Oasis Dream, the juvenile was bred by Denniff Farms and his name is of clear significance too, with Lowe owning a bakery business.

On the first day of the Cambridgeshire meeting at Newmarket, a Frankel half-brother to Listed winners Set Piece and Alocasia makes his debut in the opening mile maiden.

Out of the winning Kingmambo mare Portodora, herself from the outstanding family of Oaks winner Reams Of Verse and Irish Champion Stakes scorer Elmaamul, Keeper is a half-sibling to Set Piece, a Listed scorer and third in the Craven Stakes last year when trained by Hugo Palmer, and Alocasia, a Kingman filly who has also been placed in Group company for Henri Devin.

Portodora was a dual winner for Sir Henry Cecil as a three-year-old and this year produced a filly by Nathaniel before returning to Frankel.

Keeper faces a number of equally well-bred newcomers in the mile contest, most notably Royal Champion, a Shamardal colt out of Emirates Queen, a Street Cry half-sister to the outstanding Dubawi and a Group 2 winner herself.

The Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum-owned Royal Champion is a half-brother to the useful Outbox, a Listed-placed performer for Simon Crisford. Emirates Queen produced a filly by Dark Angel last year but was barren to New Approach the following time. She was sent to Kingman this year.

The once-raced Toromona is another by Shamardal and out of the dual Group 3-winning mare Tashelka. The Godolphin-owned colt is a half-brother to the Group 2 Prix De La Nonette scorer Tasaday, dam of the stakes-placed Turgenev, and Group 3 Desmond Stakes winner Tribal Beat.
