Group 3 winner and Irish Derby second Lone Eagle to be sold on Goffs Online
Son of Galileo won the Zetland Stakes at two and Classic-placed at three
Lone Eagle, the winner of the Group 3 Zetland Stakes as a juvenile and a narrow second to Hurricane Lane in last season's Irish Derby, will be offered on Goffs Online in a timed auction next week.
The son of Galileo, who was a 500,000gns purchase by Aquis Farm from Ballylinch Stud at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale in 2019, was a narrow second on debut at two for Martyn Meade before winning his other three starts that year, including the Zetland Stakes.
He added to his winning tally with victory in the Listed Cocked Hat Stakes on his second start as a three-year-old last year, beating subsequent Breeders' Cup Turf winner Yibir in the process. He then pushed Hurricane Lane close when finishing a neck down to the three-time Group 1 winner.
The four-year-old is the first foal out of American stakes winner Modernstone, a daughter of Duke Of Marmalade and a half-sister to two black type horses including Listed winner Chasing Stars.
She is in turn out of Post Modern, an unraced Nureyev full-sister to Oaks and Fillies' Mile winner Reams Of Verse and half-sister to the likes of Eclipse and Irish Champion Stakes scorer Elmaamul and Yorkshire Cup winner Manifest.
Goffs Group chief executive Henry Beeby said: "Goffs is delighted to be entrusted with this important sale for this international owners group and look forward to keen interest from around the globe.
He added: "An immediate sale of this nature is a speciality of Goffs Online and our much lauded platform makes it easy for bidders regardless of location.”
Lone Eagle will be sold on Goffs Online with the sale beginning at midday on Monday, November 21 and closing at midday on Tuesday, November 22.
