Grade 2-winning hurdler Dreal Deal a supplementary entry at Goffs UK
October Sale kicks off at 10am with horses in training and yearlings offered
Young Flat prospects by the likes of high-flying Havana Grey and a Grade 2-winning novice hurdler illustrate the diversity on offer at Wednesday's Goffs UK's Doncaster October Horses in Training and Yearling Sale.
Last year's Moscow Flyer Novice Hurdle scorer Dreal Deal (lot 107) was announced among a number of supplementary entries on Monday and looks a late star addition to proceedings.
The son of Arvico won six times in a row through the autumn and winter for Ronan McNally and has been plying his trade on the Flat lately. Among his beaten rivals in the Grade 2 was subsequent Champion Novice Hurdle winner Echoes In Rain.
The auction comes hot on the heels of the autumn yearling sales but precedence has shown that it has a few past graduates to shout about.
Most obviously has been the talented dual-purpose performer Buzz. The son of Motivator was a multiple winner on the Flat for Hughie Morrison before his Cesarewitch and Ascot Hurdle victories for Nicky Henderson this time last year, only to suffer a pelvic injury prior to the Long Walk Hurdle.
Another famed graduate is N'golo, a Graded winner and Grade 1-placed hurdler for Willie Mullins before selling to Ann Duffield and part-owner Kevin Jardine for just £14,500 last October.
The son of Galileo has paid that purchase back and then some with success in the Swinton Handicap Hurdle in May, while another gallant grey to have graced the Doncaster sales ring is the much-missed Silver Streak, the winner of the Christmas Hurdle in 2020. The Dark Angel gelding sold from Duffield to Evan Williams at the 2016 auction.
Around 160 horses are likely to go through the ring with trainers such as Charlie and Mark Johnston, Shark Hanlon, David Pipe, Neil Mulholland, Roger Varian, Sir Michael Stoute and Richard Fahey all making entries.
An eclectic mix of yearlings is also on offer, with sires ranging from Oasis Dream, Havana Gold and Mayson to leading first-season stallions Havana Grey, Harry Angel and Tasleet.
There are four lots by Whitsbury Manor Stud's latest sensation Havana Grey with Battlefield Stud supplying a colt out of the Society Rock mare Mayfair Rock (122) and a filly from the family of Mill Reef Stakes scorer Indian Rocket (171).
Hedgeholme Stud's colt comes from the family of Prix de Cabourg winner and Prix Morny second With Fascination (140) while Mickley Stud's filly is out of the winning Canford Cliffs mare Silhuette (145).
Goffs UK managing director Tim Kent said of the sale: "There are some nice yearlings in there by some very recognisable stallions, with four by Havana Grey for instance.
"There are also some smart horses in training, obviously Dreal Deal has added a bit of additional form to the catalogue details. When he won his novice he looked like he had the world at his feet and it's great to have him here."
He added: "There's some lovely Flat performers as well such as Have Secret [80]. He's a smart horse and one we think would appeal to overseas markets. There's a nice mixture of yearlings, Flat and National Hunt horses and we think there's something in there for everyone."
The sale starts at 10am.
