Golden Horn's first jumps runner beats the boys in juvenile hurdle
Topkapi Star won by one and three quarter lengths in a first-time hood
Golden Horn supplied his first jumps winner at Uttoxeter on Saturday when his daughter Topkapi Star landed the opening 2m juvenile hurdle.
The three-year-old filly is the first jumps runner for her sire and stayed on well from the final hurdle to beat the boys by one and three-quarter lengths in a first-time hood.
What is more, Topkapi Star is a first homebred winner for her owner-breeder Christopher Johnston, who also raced the Grade 3 Paddy Power Gold Cup Chase winner Johns Spirit, and was ridden by Jack Quinlan for trainer Amy Murphy.
Trained in the earlier part of her career by Roger Varian, Topkapi Star placed twice in nine Flat starts, however the switch to hurdles has brought about a revival in form.
She was bred out of the Thousand Words mare Burlesque Star, a daughter of the exceptional producer Es Que, who is the dam of Dominant, Es Que Love, Listen In and Zhui Feng, all of whome achieved a three-figure Racing Post Rating.
Burlesque Star was sourced by Johnston together with Micheal Orlandi of Starfield Stud.
Golden Horn, the champion three-year-old and Horse of the Year in 2015, also made his mark at York on Thursday as the sire of Listed Galtres Stakes scorer Gold Wand, who hails from the same crop as Topkapi Star.
