Galileo tops all-time list as progeny chalk up 328 European Pattern wins
His own sire Sadler's Wells previously led the way
Galileo managed to go one better than his own breed-shaping sire Sadler's Wells on Saturday, jumping to the top of the all-time list of sires with the most progeny wins in European Pattern races.
Sizzling, who posted her first Pattern win in the Group 3 Give Thanks Stakes at Cork, provided him with win number 328, one more than the progeny of Sadler's Wells, who for a long time appeared to hold an unassailable lead at the top of the table.
The Aidan O'Brien-trained three-year-old filly Sizzling is one of two winners bred on the Galileo-Smart Strike cross on the Racing Post database, the other being her year-older brother Squire's Tale.
Her dam Weekend Strike was a $2.3 million purchase for Barronstown Stud at the 2011 Keeneland November Sale, where she formed part of the dispersal of Edward Evans.
The most expensive lot in that dispersal was $4.2m purchase Christmas Kid, the dam of Christmas, who on Friday became the 278th individual stakes winner for Galileo.
Weekend Strike is out of Weekend Storm, a half-sister to A.P. Indy and Summer Squall who produced five runners with a Racing Post Rating of 100 or greater including 2011 Breeders' Cup Mile hero Court Vision.
Sizzling holds some intriguing future entries, not least the Long Distance Cup and Fillies and Mares Stakes on British Champions Day at Ascot.
Previous winners of the Give Thanks Stakes include last year's winner Eziyra and Edelmira (2014), both granddaughters of the Aga Khan's blue hen Ebaziya. Eziyra was also successful in Thursday's Ballyroan Stakes at Leopardstown.
Another past winner is She's Our Mark (2010) who, like Sizzling, descends from the 1941 Irish Oaks winner Uvira.
Galileo also supplied the smart Zagitova earlier on the card, continuing a recent purple patch for his juveniles.
