Galileo colt out of Frankel's half-sister makes deep impression with Sandown win

Maximal, by Galileo out of Frankel's half-sister Joyeuse, threw his hat into the Classic ring at Sandown on Friday.

The Juddmonte homebred juvenile, trained by Sir Michael Stoute, was partnered by Hollie Doyle to an easy five-length triumph in a novice event over a mile, and off the back of it was cut to 25-1 (from 33) for the Qipco 2,000 Guineas and to 33-1 (from 50) for the Derby by bet365.

Maximal had shown promise on his first two starts, finishing runner-up both times, but took a bit step forward upped to a mile at Sandown, where he gave his in-form rider her 100th success of 2020.

Doyle said: "He was really impressive, but we were expecting that given how well the form of his last run has been working out. It'll be interesting to see what the winner [One Ruler] comes out and does at Doncaster later."

She added: "He didn't do a tap early on, he was just dossing, it wasn't until I eyeballed him with the leader he realised he was in a race."

Maximal is the third foal out of Joyeuse, who is also of course a half-sister to Frankel's brother Noble Mission, and a half-brother to winners Jubiloso and Jovial.

Another potential star of the future was revealed at Saint-Cloud as Kingman's daughter Queen Of Love beat Poule d'Essai des Pouliches runner-up Speak Of The Devil by an eased-down length and three-quarters in a highly impressive front-running score.

Out of Exceed And Excel mare Extricate, Queen Of Love, who was a €650,000 by Charlie Gordon-Watson from the Arqana breeze-up sale last year, took apart her rivals in the Listed Prix Coronation.

It was only the Andre Fabre-trained, and Lady Bamford-owned, three-year-old's second start, having won on debut at Deauville in May.
