Galileo appears in 2,000 Guineas winner's pedigree for seventh year in a row
Coolmore phenomenon is the damsire of Newmarket hero Magna Grecia
Magna Grecia on Saturday made it seven years in a row that Galileo has featured in the pedigree of the 2,000 Guineas winner.
Saxon Warrior (2018), Galileo Gold (2016) and Night Of Thunder (2014) are all also out of daughters of the Coolmore phenomenon.
Churchill (2017) and Gleneagles (2015) are by Galileo himself, while Dawn Approach (2013) is by Galileo's son New Approach.
Camelot – the 2012 winner by Montjeu out of a Kingmambo mare – broke what might have been an even longer sequence as the year before that the race fell to Galileo's standout son Frankel.
Galileo's affinity for the 2,000 Guineas extends to the fact his half-brother Sea The Stars and 'uncle' King's Best – a half-brother to his dam Urban Sea – had earlier won the Classic.
His sons Australia and New Approach both also finished placed in the race before going on to land the Derby.
Shaping the breed before our eyes while he still stands at Coolmore, Galileo is currently damsire of 23 Group/Grade 1 winners, namely:
Age Of Fire (Fastnet Rock)
Barney Roy (Excelebration)
Fog Of War (War Front)
Galileo Gold (Paco Boy)
Hall Of Fame (Savabeel)
Hero's Honour (Await The Dawn)
Intricately (Fastnet Rock)
La Collina (Strategic Prince)
La Cressonniere (Le Havre)
Lea (First Samurai)
Leicester (Wanted)
Magicool (Fastnet Rock)
Magna Grecia (Invincible Spirit)
Night Of Thunder (Dubawi)
Qualify (Fastnet Rock)
Rivet (Fastnet Rock)
Roly Poly (War Front)
Saxon Warrior (Deep Impact)
Sistercharlie (Myboycharlie)
The Autumn Sun (Redoute's Choice)
Unforgotten (Fastnet Rock)
US Navy Flag (War Front)
Zhukova (Fastnet Rock)
The list does not include Chopin, Smashing and Thunder Fantasy, who won locally recognised Group 1 races in Qatar, India and Hong Kong respectively.
The sire who has produced most top-level winners from Galileo mares is Fastnet Rock, with seven, from War Front on three.
That is hardly surprising, considering Galileo's owners Coolmore have targeted many of their high-class mares by the sire at those two names, and many other breeders have followed suit.
More maternal grandchildren of Galileo look capable of ascending to Group 1 level over the course of the Flat season.
For example UAE Jewel, by Dubawi, made it two wins from two starts with victory in the Listed Newmarket Stakes on the 2,000 Guineas card on Saturday, while Mootasadir, by Dansili, is unbeaten in two starts this year including in the Listed Magnolia Stakes and Sottsass, a half-brother to Sistercharlie by Siyouni, stamped his Classic claims with a wide-margin victory in the Listed Prix de Suresnes on Thursday.
