Five lots who could cause a Saturday stir at Arqana's Breeding Stock Sale
Auction runs until Tuesday, with several eyecatchers among the early offerings
The Arqana Breeding Stock Sale takes place from Saturday to Tuesday; here we pick out five fillies and mares who could well get the Deauville auction off to a flying start
Kazeera (lot 77)
5yo ch m Dubawi - Kazeem (Darshaan)
Consigned by Haras d'Etreham
Haras d'Etreham's five-year-old boasts an outstanding pedigree, being a full-sister to Coral-Eclipse and Tattersalls Gold Cup winner Al Kazeem, himself the sire of Group 1 scorer Aspetar and this year's promising juvenile Saint Lawrence.
By Dubawi, Kazeera is currently carrying to Coolmore's hugely exciting young sire Wootton Bassett, while there will likely be further updates on the page with her dam producing a Cracksman colt this year. Kazeem also has a two-year-old Kingman colt in training.
Makana (108)
11yo g m Dalakhani - Marasima (Barathea)
Consigned by Haras du Haut-Gue
Makana's broodmare value received a significant boost with the exploits of Makaloun, the winner of four of his five starts and third in the Group 1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud this year.
The son of Bated Breath looks the sort to progress from two to three and his five-length win in the Group 3 Prix de Conde looked every inch the performance of a Group 1 horse. The Aga Khan-owned colt is in the right hands with Jean-Claude Rouget and further updates in 2021 would be no surprise.
Makana is in foal to Haras du Logis sire Cloth Of Stars, winner of the Prix Ganay and placed in two Arcs for Andre Fabre and Godolphin. The 11-year-old looks a highly valuable addition to any broodmare band.
Auyantepui (160)
3yo g f Night Of Thunder - Sopran Enery (Montjeu)
Consigned by Mario Baratti
By sire of the moment Night Of Thunder, whose fee was upgraded by Darley to €75,000 for 2021, Auyantepui took Italian Oaks honours when denying Memphis by a neck at San Siro in July and appears as a wildcard on the opening day of the auction.
Having been switched to France in August, she was also a respectable third in a Listed contest behind the Roger Varian-trained Queen Daenerys.
She appeals as a particularly exciting broodmare prospect as her second dam won the Premio Regina Elena and produced Derby Italiano winner Cima De Triomphe.
Truth (178)
8yo b m Galileo - Prudenzia
Consigned by Haras de Bouquetot
As a full-sister to the Group 1-winning globetrotter Magic Wand, the eight-year-old Truth should attract plenty of interest when she comes under the hammer at Arqana.
Her sister sold to a Coolmore partnership when realising €1,400,000 at Arqana's Yearling Sale in 2016, and Truth - who has been covered by Siyouni, responsible for this season's Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe hero Sottsass and Dewhurst winner St Mark's Basilica - could also command a hefty sum.
It is also worth bearing in mind the potent Galileo-Siyouni cross, a partnership responsible for the Group 1-winning pair mentioned above.
Donjah (182)
4yo b f Teofilo - Dyanamore (Mt Livermore)
Consigned by Ecurie des Monceaux
This daughter of Teofilo was one of six Group 1 winners for her sire this year and will undoubtedly be one of the headline acts on the opening day of the sale.
Trained by Henk Grewe, Donjah was a six-length winner of a Group 3 at two and followed up with a ready success in the Gran Premio del Jockey Club at three. While she acquired two Group 1 placings at three, her finest hour came when adding the Preis von Europa to her CV in August, defeating the likes of Barney Roy and Dame Malliot in the process.
A €100,000 purchase from Baden-Baden's September Yearling Sale, she is the seventh foal out of Dyanamore and is a half-sister to the stakes-placed Magic Agility. It would be safe to assume she will command a higher price than she did as a yearling.
