First foals for Frankel's Cyprus-based stallion son Straight Shooter
Impressive Saint-Cloud maiden winner is proving popular at his new home
Frankel has become a paternal grandsire as his first sons given stallion careers in the northern hemisphere, Straight Shooter and Tango Fire, have had foals born to them in recent weeks.
Straight Shooter, a seven-length winner of a Saint-Cloud maiden before being retired due to injury, was recruited by Hadjiyiannis Stud in Cyprus, while Tango Fire, an unplaced colt out of Listed winner Latin Love, joined Alias Warriach Stud in Pakistan.
Frankel's status as a sire of sires has been enhanced this year as 2018 joint world champion Cracksman has been retired to Dalham Hall Stud in Newmarket at a fee of £25,000.
Straight Shooter's joint-owner Petros Pantelides said: “The stallion had 46 mares confirmed pregnant last year, which is a pretty high number for Cyprus breeding.
“The majority of the mares are by Takkatamm, the champion sire in Cyprus for the past ten years.
“The demand from owners is high for this breeding season too.”
Pantelides shared some photos of Straight Shooter's first foals, all out of daughters of Takkatamm, shown below.
A colt out of Melina, a seven-time winner including in two Cypriot Group 1s and two Group 2s, and placed five times in 15 runs.
A colt out of Mikri Theodora, a ten-time winner and placed on 19 occasions from 49 runs.
A filly out of Vittis Rate, winner of six races and placed in another 19 contests from 42 starts.
Straight Shooter was bred by Serge Boucheron out of the unraced Machiavellian mare Straight Lass, making him a half-brother to Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere winner and sire Naaqoos.
A €400,000 Arqana August yearling, he was trained by Andre Fabre for South African tycoon Markus Jooste before his sale to Cyprus.
