Esoterique produces a Galileo colt as her first foal at Haras de Meautry

Esoterique, a triple Group 1 winner who beat the colts to take the Prix Jacques le Marois, delivered her first foal on Friday.

The new arrival is a Galileo colt born at Haras de Meautry, the breeding operation of her owner-breeder Edouard de Rothschild.

Esoterique – supremely well bred as a Danehill Dancer half-sister to five other stakes winners in Archange D'Or, Russian Cross, Russian Desert, Russian Hill and Russian Hope – was trained by Andre Fabre to win the Prix Vanteaux and finish a neck second in the Poule d'Essai des Pouliches at three.

At four she took the Dahlia Stakes and Prix Rothschild and ran a close fourth to Charm Spirit in the Prix du Moulin.

In the following season she finished second in the Queen Anne Stakes and Prix Maurice de Gheest and took the scalps of Territories and Lightning Spear to win the Prix Jacques le Marois. She made it three Group 1 victories by scoring in the Sun Chariot Stakes, before signing off for the year with an honourable fourth to Maurice in the Hong Kong Mile.

Esoterique failed to get her head in front in her final season of racing at six, but was second in the Prix du Palais-Royal and was not beaten far when fourth in the Prix Rothschild and sixth in the Prix Jacques le Marois.

The mare did not get in foal in her first year of retirement in 2017 due to a “technical issue” which was obviously resolved to enable her to foal to Galileo, who she will be covered again this year.

On paper Galileo and Esoterique look a match made in heaven, with the sire's previous trysts with Danehill Dancer mares having produced Group 1 winners Alice Springs, Minding and The Gurkha.
