English King offered as wildcard entry for Tattersalls Horses in Training Sale
The son of Camelot was an impressive winner of Lingfield's Derby Trial in June
Lingfield Derby Trial winner and long-time antepost Investec Derby favourite English King has been entered as a wildcard for next week's Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale.
Owned by Bjorn Nielsen and trained by Ed Walker, the attractive son of Camelot got off the mark at the second attempt as a juvenile before his impressive Lingfield success, seeing off subsequent St Leger runner-up Berkshire Rocco by an easy two and three-quarter lengths.
He could only finish fifth at Epsom and has since run behind Mogul in the Group 3 Gordon Stakes at Goodwood and Group 1 Grand Prix de Paris at Longchamp.
Out of the Zafonic mare Platonic, and therefore a relation of black type winners Pacifique and Prudenzia, the dam of Group 1 stars Magic Wand and Chicquita, English King is one of 61 stakes performers for Coolmore's sire, who has produced Irish Oaks winner Even So and South Australian Derby scorer Russian Camelot among five individual top-level winners.
Walker said of the three-year-old, offered as lot 1153A, “I genuinely believe English King is the best horse I have ever trained and I will be very sorry to see him sold. He is an outstanding prospect for the future having only raced six times and has all the credentials to attract potential buyers from throughout the world.
"He's a horse who loves fast ground and like all top-class horses has the ability to quicken off a fast pace as demonstrated in the Derby where he had the fastest final three furlongs of all."
