Enbihaar continues fine run for Shadwell with Lillie Langtry win
Redoute's Choice filly landed the Group 2 in style
Fresh from the blistering win of Battaash in the Group 2 King George Stakes on Friday, Enbihaar continued Shadwell's excellent run of form when giving weight and a beating to her six rivals in the Group 2 Lillie Langtry Stakes at Glorious Goodwood on Saturday.
The daughter of Arrowfield Stud’s late breed-shaping stallion Redoute's Choice, who was recently crowned champion broodmare sire for the first time, travelled beautifully in the hands of Jim Crowley before showing a smart turn of foot to put daylight between herself and the chasing pack.
Kept up to her work inside the final furlong, the John Gosden-trained filly came home five lengths clear of fellow co-favourite Manuela De Vega in second, with South Sea Pearl, another of the 7/2 co-favourites, a further length and three quarters adrift in third.
The Group 2 Park Hill Stakes at Doncaster shapes as the next logical target for Enbihaar according to Angus Gold - racing manager for owner Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum - who was delighted with the development the filly has shown this season.
"She really was impressive there," he told ANZ Bloodstock News. "I haven't seen it again but I loved the way she cruised into the race and came there so sweetly. She has a magnificent stride on her.
"She ran really well to the line, don't ask me where that stamina has come from, it must be on the female side of the family because it's unusual for a Redoute's, but the most wonderful thing for me is her attitude. She was always very fizzy as a two-year-old and gave the team at home quite a hard time.
"I remember John Gosden saying to me as a two-year-old that she was terribly weak and immature, but that she goes up Warren Hill as if it's not there. You can see why with that action.
"I loved the way she did that with the penalty, she really outclassed them and put it to bed nicely."
Gold also nominated the Prix de Royallieu, to be run for the first time as a Group 1 contest over 2800 metres on the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe undercard, as an end of season target for Enbihaar, with Gold revealing the Melbourne Cup is unlikely to enter calculations for the rapidly improving filly.
"This filly was bought because she was a beautiful type and she will be going to stud, so I think it's highly likely, not for any negative reason, that Sheikh Hamdan will want to retire her at the end of the year," added Gold.
"I'm sure he'll want to win a Group 1 with her at the end of October (Prix de Royallieu) if we can, so as much as I would love to have her in the Melbourne Cup I think it's unlikely at this stage.
"Sheikh Hamdan doesn't make a habit of keeping these fillies in training as four-year-olds, he loves his breeding and she's a lovely filly for the stud to breed from.
"I'm so delighted Sheikh Hamdan kept her in training this year because now she's more mature. She's a big filly, I think she's 16.3 hands high with huge depth on her, and obviously it's taken her a while to grow into that frame. The improvement has been fantastic with her mentally as much as physically. The team have done a brilliant job."
Purchased for €500,000 at the Arqana August Yearling Sale, Enbihaar has now won four of her seven starts for prize-money of £288,574.
From the second European crop of Redoute's Choice, the four-year-old filly is one of three winners out of Chanterelle, who is herself out of Group 2 winner Spectacular Joke.
Chanterelle is a half-sister to Group 1 winner Amonita and sister to the prolific Pattern winner Cox Orange, the dam of Listed winner Vista Bella, who finished third in the 2005 renewal of the 1,000 Guineas.
Enbihaar caps off a lucrative few days in Europe for Arrowfield's late breed-shaping sire Redoute's Choice, who enjoyed a first Group 1 winner from his European progeny when Danceteria won the Grosser Dallmayr Preis in Germany last Sunday.
Enbihaar is one of 166 stakes winners for the late stallion, whose legacy is being continued at Arrowfield by his sons, which include three-time champion sire Snitzel and Not A Single Doubt.
Redoute's Choice shuttled to Haras de Bonneval in Normandy in 2013 and 2014, as part of a collaboration between the stud's owner, the Aga Khan, and Arrowfield.
