Elite broodmare band and exciting mating plans a reminder of Shadwell's strength
Outside stallions being used include Dubawi, Frankel, Sea The Stars and Kingman
A strong home book of mares await Shadwell's exciting second-season sire and top-class performer Mohaather, with the Sussex Stakes winner's first foals arriving this term.
The son of Showcasing's first book last year included the dam of Irish 2,000 Guineas hero Awtaad in Asheerah; Falmouth Stakes and Sun Chariot Stakes heroine Nazeef; and Fadhayyil, a Listed-winning daughter of Tamayuz and the dam of Group 2 winner Turaath.
Among the mares Shadwell will send to Mohaather are Aneen, a Listed-placed Lawman half-sister to Irish 2,000 Guineas hero Awtaad who is in foal to Frankel; Enbihaar, a multiple Group 2 winner by Redoute’s Choice who is expecting by Kingman; and Mutebah, a Listed-placed daughter of Marju who is the dam of Champagne Stakes runner-up Albasheer and is in foal to Lope De Vega.
Others include Rayaheen, a winning daughter of Nayef who has produced Sweet Solera Stakes winner Tajaanus and is carrying to Frankel; and Baqqa, a Shamardal full-sister to dual Singapore Airlines International Cup winner Dan Excel and half-sister to last season’s Vertem Futurity runner-up Sissoko.
Outside sires set for strong support
While the first full covering season since the death of Shadwell founder Hamdan Al Maktoum comes after a worldwide restructure and downsizing of the blue and white empire, both the class of the broodmare band and the stallions selected to visit are reminders of the quality already in place and that the ambition to breed elite racehorses very much remains.
Asheerah, who is expecting to Mohaather and is also the dam of the exciting Mehnah, will be covered by Frankel, as will Nazeef, whose promising Frankel half-brother Mostahdaf struck in the Darley Stakes on his final start last term.
Handassa, a Listed winner by Dubawi and the dam of Nazeef and Mostahdaf, is due to Frankel's studmate Kingman and will return to him this season alongside Majmu, a dual Group 1-winning daughter of Redoute’s Choice.
Fadhayyil is another set for a Juddmonte stallion, this time the venerable Oasis Dream. Her daughter Turaath, who is by Oasis Dream, won the Furphy Let's Elope Stakes at Flemington in September. Fadhayyil is due to foal by Mohaather this season.
Shadwell are set for a repeat mating that produced the unbeaten Baaeed and multiple Group 3 winner Hukum, with Aghareed set to return to Sea The Stars. The Listed-winning daughter of Kingmambo and Lahudood also has an unraced Frankel filly, Al Raahba, who will also be covered by Sea The Stars.
The Gilltown Stud resident will also receive Adool, a daughter of Teofilo whose three-year-old colt by the sire, Antarah, was hugely impressive when winning at Newcastle for the Gosdens in October.
Tawkeel, an easy winner of the Prix Saint-Alary, by Teofilo, will also be covered by Sea The Stars. She is currently in foal to Dubawi.
Sea The Stars' outstanding Oaks and King George winner Taghrooda will be rested after a late foaling to Lope De Vega.
Yasmeen, a Listed-placed daughter of Shamardal and the dam of unbeaten Shaara, will visit Lope De Vega along with Newmarket Pretty Polly Stakes winner Maqsad, who is in foal to Sea The Stars.
Two exciting new recruits to Shadwell's broodmare band are Prix de Pomone winner and Prix Vermeille runner-up Raabihah, a daughter of Sea The Stars, and Hoppings Stakes winner and Nassau Stakes second Zeyaadah, by Tamayuz. The pair will be covered by Dubawi.
Other mares bound for Darley sires are Tarfasha, a daughter of Teofilo who finished second to Taghrooda in the Oaks and also won the Blandford Stakes.
She is carrying to Kingman and will visit the exciting Ghaiyyath, while Nafaayes, a dual Group 2-winning and Group 1-placed daughter of Exceed And Excel, will have a date with fellow Kildangan Stud stallion Blue Point.
