Dubawi sires landmark 100th individual Group winner
Darley's flagship stallion becomes the first based in Britain to reach mark
Dubawi became the first British-based stallion to sire 100 individual Group winners as Godolphin homebred Crown Walk won the Group 3 Prix Chloe at Chantilly on Monday.
Ridden by William Buick, who last month became the first jockey to carry the famous blue silks of Godolphin to Derby glory at Epsom, Crown Walk scored by a nose from My Sister Nat to write Darley's great sire into the history books.
Darley's flagbearer, whose 2018 fee was £250,000, is the tenth overall to reach a century of Group scorers, joining legendary names like Danehill, Galileo and Storm Cat.
Five of Dubawi's best
Postponed
Best RPR - 126
Now standing alongside his father at Dalham Hall, Postponed enjoyed a tremendous 2016, winning three Group 1 races including York's Juddmonte International and the Dubai Sheema Classic at Meydan. He is one of 35 Group 1 winners for his brilliant sire.
Al Kazeem
Best RPR - 126
One of the most popular of Dubawi's progeny, Al Kazeem notched four Group 1 wins during a racing career that was split apart by a first, aborted stallion career, including a Coral-Eclipse and a Tattersalls Gold Cup on his final appearance.
Night Of Thunder
Best RPR - 124
Another son of Dubawi to have joined him at Dalham Hall, Night Of Thunder won one of the great Qipco 2,000 Guineas of recent years, getting the better of the likes of Kingman, Australia, Charm Spirit, Toormore, Kingston Hill and The Grey Gatsby.
Arabian Queen
Best RPR - 116
Golden Horn now has pride of place on Darley's Dalham Hall roster but one of his illustrious studmate's daughters, Arabian Queen, delivered arguably the biggest upset of the summer of 2015. Sent off a 50-1 shot, the David Elsworth-trained filly downed the brilliant Derby winner in an unforgettable tussle in the Juddmonte International.
Dartmouth
Best RPR - 121
Not a Group 1 winner but any Royal Ascot winner for the Queen is special and Dartmouth delivered for Her Majesty in the 2016 Hardwicke Stakes. A dual Group 2 winner, he has twiced been placed at the elite level.
A winner of the Irish 2,000 Guineas during his racing career, Dubawi retired to stud in 2006 at a fee of £25,000 and became the fastest stallion ever to reach 50 individual Group winners when Wannabe Yours landed the Thoroughbred Stakes at Goodwood in 2014.
"We are all absolutely delighted that Dubawi has reached this momentous landmark," said Darley's director of stallions, Sam Bullard. "He was the faster ever to sire 50 Group winners and to have sired 100 at this stage of his career is truly outstanding.
"It is also very fitting that his 100th Group winner is a homebred for Sheikh Mohammed and carried the Godolphin blue silks to victory today."
It is fitting too that Dubawi should reach the landmark this week, as he will be shown off to breeders alongside the rest of Darley's stallions at Dalham Hall at the annual parade of stallions, beginning on Thursday.
