Doctor Dino up to a French record fee of €24,000 at Haras du Mesnil
It has been reported that Doctor Dino's fee will be elevated to €24,000 (live foal) next year, a new record figure for a French National Hunt stallion, and he will be restricted to a book of 100.
Now 22, the king of Haras du Mesnil is the sire of the Champion Hurdle winner State Man among many other well-known names including La Bague Au Roi, Dinoblue and Sceau Royal. The results have seen a feeding frenzy over his progeny, among which was the €350,000 top lot at the Tattersalls Derby Sale.
The globetrotting winner at the highest level in Hong Kong and America for Richard Gibson began his new career off a fee of €3,000, which soared to €22,000 last year. Interest in him is such that a hurdling son, Master D'Oc, was retired to stud last week.
Agent Marc-Antoine Berghgracht, on behalf of his ownership syndicate, told French publication Jour de Galop: "Next season, Doctor Dino will be limited to 100 mares. This is the first year it will be limited. He will be 23 years old and we want to respect him and continue to select the mares offered to him. He deserves it."
Xabier Salmean, son of Doctor Dino's racing owner late Javier Salmean, said: "The team surrounding the stallion is great and can't wait to start the 2025 season. Doctor Dino is in his prime, magnificent, strong and full of life. He really enjoys his daily life at Haras du Mesnil."
