Dams of Palace Pier and Pretty Gorgeous among December Mare Sale catalogue
Stallion Gutaifan also registered for the Tattersalls auction later this year
Lady Gorgeous, whose daughter Pretty Gorgeous won the Group 1 Fillies' Mile at Newmarket this month, is a notable inclusion in the catalogue at the forthcoming Tattersalls December Mares Sale.
The Compton Place mare was bought for €40,000 by agent Mags O'Toole at Arqana on the same day Pretty Gorgeous was knocked down to her as a foal. The 11-year-old will reappear in foal to No Nay Never, consigned by Norelands Stud.
It had already been announced that the 1,104 lots would include a part-dispersal of the late Duke of Roxburghe’s Floors Stud and there is a further high-profile addition in the shape of Beach Frolic, the dam of star miler Palace Pier.
He was bred by Floors and Highclere Stud, which will consign the mare in foal to Blue Point.
The sale, which takes place between November 30 and December 3, features a whole host of blue-chip mares once again, as well as a couple of surprises.
Gutaifan, the Yeomanstown Stud stallion who has produced Group 2 winner Fev Rover, is catalogued as lot 1508, just four after Joseph O'Brien's 2017 Melbourne Cup winner Rekindling is set to go through the ring.
Others catologued include seven-year-old Miss Phillyjinks, dam of recent Group 1 Prix Marcel Boussac winner Tiger Tanaka and carrying to Mehmas, and Pivotal mare Dulkashe, whose first foal was much-missed Coronation Cup hero Defoe.
Queensland Oaks winner Winning Ways is offered in foal to Kingman, while Listed-placed Golconda is carrying a Justify foal. In total the catalogue features well over 100 Group and Listed winners or producers, as well as mares in foal to 22 of the current top 25 active British- and Irish-based sires.
Tattersalls chairman Edmond Mahony said: "The Tattersalls December Sale is Europe’s premier breeding stock sale and this year’s catalogue, which features the final part of the Waddesdon Stud dispersal and the partial dispersal from Floors Stud, has quality in abundance.
"The December Sale is the annual showcase for the very best breeding stock that Europe has to offer and is a sale which exerts an extraordinary influence on the global thoroughbred industry.
"The 2020 catalogue has outstanding consignments from many of the world’s leading owner-breeders and those buyers unable to make their annual pilgrimage to the sale will again be able to use the Tattersalls live internet bidding platform and telephone bidding facilities, which have been a huge asset since we've been conducting sales under strict Covid-related rules and regulations."
